AA alternative for sobriety Posted: 03-31-08 12:22pm
I had a great 3 month period of sobriety,
then i had the first drink which took me
straight back to where i was before.
Fortunately, I am ready and willing to
kick the bottle again, and am going to
start AA. can anyone give me information
or links for AA in San Antonio, TX? Im
having a little trouble finding a meeting
close to home. I'd also like to ask for
any other advise, testimonials, info, from
anyone who is interested in
talking/venting. As for me, I am 23, an
alcoholic for 3 years now, haven't hit
rock bottom and DON'T want to!!! Thats
why Im determined to stop for good now. I
need to graduate college, get a job, and
start living, opposed to getting smashed
each and every single day of my life.
PS: is there any type of online group
therapy or chat, you know, maybe an
alternative to AA until I find a meeting?
Thanks everyone!

AA is the way to go. And you have got to
work the twelve steps every day of your
life. Take that serenity prayer and make
copies and frame them and put one in every
room in you house. There is no alternative
for AA. You yourself have picked up that
first drink. You have no willl power and
that is something that is a must to
getting sober. My X was sober for 18
years. One beer was all it took. Off he
was. It is that simple. Back to the chip
count again. He had gotton his white chip
and was so proud of it. You also need to
think really hard about what made you take
that first drink. Whatever it was, that is
the thing you need to consitrate on. If
there are several reasons, then
consintrate on ALL of them. Before you
pick up that drink, think!
There might be an on line chat for AA. I
would do a search with the words AA chat
and see what you come up with. There has
to be some out there.

MY EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN THAT AA WORKS BEST
WHEN YOU WANT TO QUIT. FOR THOSE WHO
CAN'T DO AA FOR WHATEVER REASON, THERE IS
A DRUG CALLED SUBOXONE THAT WILL HELP YOU
QUIT MOST ANYTHING. I TAKE WELLBUTRIN XL
WITH PROZAC ALSO, AND I KNOW THAT THIS
DOES WORK. I STILL DO ONLINE MEETINGS
WITH AA AND NA.

This is a great place to start.
There are AA chats if that's what you are
using to quit. I went to meetings for a
couple of months to get on track. I've
been sober almost 8 months, I have my life
together and no desire to drink. All
without help from a higher power or
working the twelve steps. People have told
me I won't stay sober without a higher
power, but that only makes me eager to
prove them wrong.
Anyway, you go about it, don't pick up
that drink and think it'll be ok for that
one time. I enjoy my life so much without
alcohol. It's so nice to be part of my
family's life and the world in general.
Good luck, you can do it!

I have been clean and sober for over 6
years now. I really didn't like AA until I
was about 3 years sober but have found
that it's the only thing that helped me
fix not only my drug and alcohol problem,
but also my lifestyle.
Here is the website for San Antonio's
Central Office: http://www.aasanantonio.org
/meetings
They have meetings listed there, hopefully
some of them are near where you live. They
also have a 24-hour hotline you can call:
(210) 828-6235
I don't know about online chats or
anything, but there are a lot of forums
for people in recovery. It might do you
some good though to go and meet up with
people in person. It helps to get out of
the house, away from the computer.
Speaking of which, I'm off to a meeting in
a few minutes. Hope all works out the way
God intended. Don't forget: AA will always
be there, when you are ready.

What are the symtoms of alcoholism? I
have often wondered. My dad is a heavy
drinker, but is that alcoholism?
