My friend has confirmed pregnancy, but as she only has one ovary and has had a portion of her uterus removed, so she is not sure if the pregnancy is tubal or not. She doesn't like to really talk about it but she had cancer, which required the partial removal and loss of one ovary. She did get pregnant last year and tried to carry the baby to term. They were able to sew the cervix closed to give her the best prognosis, but she miscarried. At that time, doctors told her she would never be able to get pregnant. Yet, she has. I am concerned for her because I understand these kind of issues with pregnancy can be life threatening especially if the pregnancy is etopic. At what point can an ultrasound determine where the pregnancy/placenta has attached? How long into her pregnancy will she have to wait to know/ get a sonogram? So far the advice she has received is making her wait and think that there may be a possibility of her carrying to term. While I do not want to see her disappointed, I do not want her to be harmed by the decisions she is making since she so wants it to be true that she is able to have children. If she can carry to term, are there possible malformations that occur with a partial uterus and medical conditions such as the cancer? What advice can you offer?
