Abnormal Bleeding on Nuvaring Posted: 03-19-08 21:50pm
My friend is worried and she has been on a
few sites and now she is afraid. She has
been on the Nuvaring for a few years now I
believe, and has had no problems with it.
I do not know if this would cause this to
act like this, but she ran out of the
prescription and has been waiting to go
back. Two weeks ago she ended her period.
Now she says she has had a brownish
discharge, even when she is off her
period. Kind of gross, but she says it
looks like apple butter to compare it to
the color.
She has been told by medical sites that
she is either pregnant, has cervical
cancer or has something else...She took a
pregnancy test, and she is not pregnant.
They use two types of protection, birth
control and condoms...So I figure it would
be doubtful she would be pregnant, and she
uses her birthcontrol correctly.
She is scared and has an appointment with
the doctor on Friday...In the mean time we
would like some answers...

Brown discharge is probably just old
blood. Blood can sit in the uterus.
Frequently women experience this type of
discharge when on bc or other hormone
therapies.
I hope she does go to the doctor.

She should not worry too much. As
antigone said, brown discharge is usually
just old blood. Since she has an
appointment she can ask questions and have
tests done there, but chances are VERY
high that she is okay (as long as she
isn't experiencing any other pains or
symptoms that you have not mentioned).
This is a normal thing that happens to
women sometimes.
