If you don't know if you are pregnant yet,
these things are ok. If you find out your
are pregnant, you'll have to follow the
list of recommended medications your
doctor gives you. Which is basically
sudafed and tylenol.

Your baby is probably fine. Things like
this happen. Just be sure to stick to
tylenol for pain and sudafed for
allergies. Robitussin is also okay. That's
what they told me to take while I was
pregnant. Nyquil is a no no though. Don't
worry just don't do it in the future.

When is your period due? It is unlikely
this would have caused any harm.

Sorry StacyHoll but advil, which is
ibuprofen, is a big no no while pregnant.
You are supposed to stick with tylenol.
You need to really ask your doctor about
that. If you do a quick search on google
about advil and pregnancy I'm sure you
will see everything says not to take it. I
don't know if I would want to see your
doctor if he thinks it's ok.

thats the same advice my doctor and sister
inlaw gave me.
Tylenol is ok to take while pregnant, but
i never knew you could take robitussin
while pregnant, i dont even want to take
tylenol when i get a headache just because
even though i know its ok to take, i would
rather sleep it off instead of take
something.

I called my doctor. He said ONLY advil.
Nothing else. He's the head of OB at our
hospital. So, I will take his advice. He
said not to look at things online because
he's a trained OB and he knows what I
should and shouldn't be taking. He said I
will hear alot of contraversy about it.
Therefore I will do what the doctor is
telling me.

"Tylenol. Pregnant women can take Tylenol,
but it has to be regular strength and not
extra strength. The effects of Tylenol on
pregnancy have not been fully determined
and some studies link overuse of Tylenol
during pregnancy (more than 4 grams in 48
hours) with birth defects and
complications. Because of this, experts
recommended that pregnant women take
Tylenol rarely. Try to use Tylenol as a
last resort for a stubborn headache that
won't go away."

This is why he said no Tylenol.. Birth
defects and because they don't know.
However, it is safer to take advil my
doctor said. I was advices not to look up
things online because of the different
context etc. Different opinions. There
for my advice for you would be to go to
your OB ask what you can take because this
is opinions. AND opinions aren't worth
birth defects etc.

Do you honestly listen to everything a
doctor says?
They can be wrong sometimes you know.
Those studies of birth defects are
probably from women who took it more that
they should of, as it says to use tylenol
as a last result, as they should for any
medication while pregnant.
Im sure,[if you did look it up] that Advil
would be linked to things like this too.
Advil [and other medications like Advil]
are blood thinners, and can cause
hemorraging after delivery.
Which is why Tylenol is recommended other
than Advil.
Maybe you should seek out a second opinion
from a doctor or another OB.

Advil (ibuprophen) is safe to take except
until 6 weeks before delivery because it
could cause complications in delivery.
IF you need to sleep, taking Advil PM or
Tylenol PM according to the package
directions is safe. Or you can take
"allergy medication" which is the PM part
without the pain relief.
If you have a cold, recent studies have
found that actually dark honey (buckwheat)
and lemon juice is just as effective if
not more effective than cold medicines.
Honey and lemon is safe and the way to go.
Hope you feel better.

He has been a doctor for 26 years. He
keeps current and he's a specialist. He
delivers the doctors and nurses babies at
the hospital. He's top of the time.- The
head of the OB's at the hospital. OB's
call him and ask for advice. So I will
trust him.
He told me that its because they don't
know what tylenol can do yet. HE did say
that after 30 weeks no Advil for that
exact reason. hemorraging. At that point
he said. I would have to bare with the
headache- and it would be worth it. It's
only 10 weeks. Actually my family doctor
agrees because when he first found out I
was pregnant he told me only to take
advil. I am definitly a Tylenol girl. I
have always used it, but the risks are
just to high.
I am not debating it. I am just saying
that wedsites conterdict each other and
you can get information YOU WANT by
looking it up in different ways. I looked
up the dangers on Tylenol during pregnany.
Then I looked up Tylenol during
pregnancy.
ETC ETC.
He said that no matter how little or how
much tylenol I take the affects aren't
good in most people. I think I will go
with the specialist over a website full of
conterdicting advice, that are NOT written
by doctors or specialists.. Just peoples
OPINIONS..
Hey its your child. I am going back to the
original poster and saying talk to your
doc. Not to people who will "guess" or
find some outdated website full of more
opinions. Good luck!

I'm sure everything is ok. Women do a lot
of things before they find out and
everything turns out ok.
My doc always said tylenol, benedryl, and
sufafed only. She says that Ibuprofen and
Advil cause problems with the baby's
developing heart valves anytime during
pregnancy.
I trust her and if she had said for me to
take Ibuprofen I would have trusted her
word too.

So your saying, Advil has no effect
whatsoever...
I mean, i dont take any medication now
[other than Folic Acid and Materna]
because i would rather sleep off a
headache, than take a pill.
I just dont see how Advil could have no
effects AT ALL, when its a blood thinner
and can cause prolems with the baby. I
have looked it up, Majority of the sites
say it is NOT RECOMMENDED to take during
pregnancy, UNLESS a doctor has told you
its ok. So i guess its safe, but i cant
see how it would be really that safe if it
thins your blood...
LoL and you did the same thing when
looking up info on Tylenol during
pregnancy, which could be contradicting
results too. Most of us have gone to the
doctors and asked what we can take, and
most doctors have said Tylenol.

I am basing my advice on 6 successful
pregnancies and using Advil and Tylenol in
all of them (only using these medications
on an as needed basis, NOT every day) and
the advice of my doctor. Remember that
everything on this site is only advice and
not matter what we or any doctor says, it
is only advice and the ultimate decisions
are up to you. If you are uncomfortable
taking anything, then don't take it.
I'm sure the OP is going to be fine. If
you are TTC, it's best to watch for what
you are taking in the future, but don't
worry about what you've been doing up
until now. One dose that you took is not
going to hurt.

You're right! I would rather not take
anything, but I do take advil sometimes in
extream cases when I need it. LOL- It is a
blood thinner like Tylenol. It also
relaxes muscles which is good. However, it
has no effect on the baby. Just on me if I
take it past 30 weeks. Therefore I will
not take it. However, if I have to chose
Tylenol which could cause problems for the
baby.. OR Advil which could cause problems
for me. I would chose Advil. Which I do
take one per month. If it will hurt me in
the long run thats OK. Because it wont
hurt the baby. My doctor said it wouldn't
hurt her. So, I will continue to take it.
I have a strong baby, she has a great
heart beat, she's a good size. Advil
hasn't hurt her.
You're right I did look up the bad things
about Tylenol and I think I mentioned
that. - because the comment before says if
you look online. I proving that there is
too much contravercy online. Where I was
told Tylenol would cause more problems
etc. I trust my doctor so you can say what
you want and I will not agree. - My
doctors instruction is much more valued
than your opinion. I also mentioned that
they are just opinions and its not good
too look up that type of stuff online.
I am not here to argue about it. I am just
saying what I was told, and the best
advice is to go to your doctor to find out
what is safe. I don't know why you're
agreeing with stuff you look at online, by
people who are not doctors again as I
mentioned... They're just opinions.
I definitly agree with mominashoe with the
lemon and Honey! Thats a wonderful idea
and I would definitly do that if I got a
cold! Good idea!! I also learned
about pressure points with headaches that
are great!
