affording baby
Posted: 06-02-08 11:07am

If I choose to have the baby I have no idea what I can do to pay for it. My boyfriend still has a year left before he can get a job as an emt and he is only making less than minimum wage as a waiter and we CANNOT find another job. I am desperately applying at every building I walk in to but there is still seemingly no hope. Until my boyfriend becomes a paramedic in two years, or an emt in one, I have no hope of being able to financially support the child... I have no hope of being able to support my self right now even!!!!

I will be 18 when the baby is born, what do I do?

Have you talked to your parents? The first step is making a plan and getting your support system in order. You need to find out what insurance is available to you (your parents can help with that).

You also need to seriously look at the best interest of the child. How will you afford clothing, diapers, food, carseats, furniture and basic necessities? That isn't including the other things that come along. For instance, did you know that dance classes, little league, swimming lessons all cost money? And there are fees at school every other week for pictures or a field trip. I'm just saying, if you cannot afford the basics for the child, how will you afford the other things that just happen?

Having a child is incredibly expensive. Daycare is a major expense. These are all things you are going to need to sit down and figure out with your parents or someone who can show you the bigger picture.

This isn't meant to be negative, it is realistic. TALK TO YOUR PARENTS!

Medicaid, WIC, food stamps, housing aid.... go apply for all of that. Every bit helps.

First off take everythign Ingi said in, read it understand it!

You are fully capable of getting a job, maybe just not looking in the right direction? Walking in and out of store after store may not be the best route, yes you are a minor, but get online, make a resume, submit it to sites like craigslist and monster and yahoo hot jobs.

Also, have you considered another route? Returning to school? Living off grants and schloarships, which often pay for housing and necessities, while putting you thru school which is a great factor for your life.

You need a support system, telling your family, whether they love or hate the idea in the begining they will come around.
