Allegra or Zoloft side effects ? Posted: 05-02-08 22:09pm
Hey, I've never posted on here because
I've never had any sort of real health
concern before, so bear with me, please.
I'm 25 years old, still a virgin (due to
beliefs), and have recently developed a
whole line of problems, when I was always
healthy as a horse before.
*Starting in November, I suddenly began
constant sneezing and losing my voice,
which caused me to be allergy tested. I
learned I am now allergic to dust mites
and have to take a daily dose of Allegra.
Due to what was believed to be work
related stress, my doctor also started me
on Zoloft.
*In December, I had my tonsils and
adenoids removed.
*On March 20th, I was working with my
students after school, when I suddenly
felt a strong twinge/pain in my lower
right back. This continued to come and
go, seemingly randomly, for several weeks,
still continuing until now.
*My first period after the pains began
March 23 and was slightly lighter and
shorter than normal, but with stronger
cramps. (I've always been extremely
regular, with each period being light for
two days, heavy for one, average for two,
and spotting for a day or two, with only
light cramps.)
*On the evening of April 1st, I began to
have extremely strong menstrual-type
cramps on the right side which even went
as far as to make me feel nauseated,
although my period was now over. During
the night, I began having to frequently
urinate, and it was painful. The next
morning, I went to my doctor, and he
prescribed antibiotics, saying I had a
UTI, although I had never had one before.
I took the antibiotics for the full week
they were prescribed but still felt pain
when urinating for the first three days,
which I have been told is longer than I
should have.
*On April 8, I returned to my doctor,
telling him I still felt the lower back
pain and how long the urinating pain had
lasted. He gave me a prescription for
more antibiotics and told me to go see a
urologist.
*On April 11, I saw a urologist. He took
an X-ray and told me I probably had a
kidneystone that just didn't show up on
the X-ray. He also told me that he
doubted I ever even had a UTI... By this
point, the pain in my lower right back was
increasing to at least once an hour
(lasting about 20 seconds or so each).
*On April 16, I began to feel the same
pains, except in the left side of my lower
back.
*On April 17, I returned to my urologist.
He told me the left side pains were
probably in my head. Then he did a CT
scan of my abdomen. He did not find any
sign of a kidney stone. He did, however,
tell me that my uterus is much larger than
average and that I had what appeared to be
a cyst on my right ovary. That same
night, my period started again. Early,
MUCH lighter than normal, and with
extremely bad cramps.
*I immediately made an appointment with an
OB/GYN, but since I am rather new to this
area, I hadn't found a doctor in that
field here yet. So, in other words, I
have to wait until mid-May until I'll
finally get in to see a gyno. However,
the pains on my right side in the back
have increased so they're now every few
minutes, usually lasting a couple minutes
each. I've been having cramping pains in
my right front side quite a bit, causing
nausea on several occasions (never
vomiting--I have a high tolerance,
thankfully).
*As I was trying on new clothes the other
day, I saw myself in a full-length mirror
and discovered that my stomach seems to be
poking outward slightly--I've always been
rather thin and haven't changed my eating
habits, so this seems quite odd to me.
*Starting yesterday (May 1), I began to
feel a pain that feels like I sat down on
a spike, although I was just standing
there, teaching my class. (It's a really
good thing my students are used to me
making weird faces, since I'm a goofball.
Otherwise, they would've thought something
was wrong. Teenagers are too
inquisitive.) The pain only lasted for
about three or four seconds--which was
really good or else I probably would've
started crying. I felt it again today, as
I way lying down for a nap.
Anyway, all of this is really starting to
bug me. Does anyone know what is going
on? Might it have anything to do with the
Allegra or Zoloft? Or is it something
more serious? My friends are all claiming
miraculous conception...
If anyone could help a bit more than that,
I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

It doesn't have to be an OB/GYN. If a
medical doctor hears of your condition of
enlarged uterus and possible cyst, they
can refer you immediately to an OB/GYN.
Why didn't the doctor that found the
enlarged uterus and possible cyst take
action then? I have lost all faith in the
medical profession. I know that sounds
horrible, but most of them do not know
what in the heck is going on. If the
blood work comes back with normal levels,
they don't have a clue what to do next!

Believe me, this has been a practice in
patience for me--not one in growing faith
in our medical system. It really seems
like when I told my first doctor I had
pains in my kidney region that he should
have cared more then... After the second
visit, he told me I should see a urologist
within a week but that his office would
set up the appointment--when two days went
by without anyone calling me about an
appointment, I called the first doctor's
office. They said they usually took about
a week to set up referral appointments and
that if I wanted to see a urologist before
then, I would have to make that
appointment myself. So, yes, I completely
understand the feeling of losing faith...

It is sad that we are not able to rely on
the medical profession. I think GOOD
doctors are few and far between. I am
sorry about your recent problems, MAYBE
you can find doctor who will have a clue!

I agree the medical profession has gone
down the drain. They refer you to this guy
and that guy to do this test and that test
and then cant tell you what the heck is
wrong.
I am sorry that you have seen so many
professionals and have gotten no asnwers.
But it sounds like it could be your
kidney. Maybe the UTI developed into a
kidney infection. The pains in your side
could be from a really bad infection. Or
it could be a cyst. Have you had fever at
all? If so then get your but to am ER room
so they can run various tests on you.
There they can do CT Scans, Xrays, and
extensive urine and blood work.
Have you had blood work done yet? Did they
do a blood test to check how your kidneys
are functioning. Im guessing they didnt
cause you should be well by now. If I were
you I would go back to my general doctor
and demand blood work to check for every
possible infection/disease.
I had E Coli and it took 2 months for me
to find out. I had a cyst, a tubal
pregnancy, and a bladder infections all at
once....yeah right. I went in to another
doctor demanded blood work. They ran all
the blood tests under the sun. In two days
I was on a course of antibiotics so strong
that they were worriesd my body would
start poisoning itself.
Bottom line do not walk away without and
answer. YOu know your body more than
anyone else. Demand answers evern if you
piss them off....hey they are getting paid
right???

Yes, they are getting paid a lot of money
- that is why our insurance keeps getting
higher and higher. It is so frustrating
to go from doctor to doctor to doctor and
not get any answers. Hopefully, you can
find a GOOD doctor SOON - it is ridiculous
for you to suffer like this - I am sorry
for what you are going through.

Well.... I did some complaining and was
able to get them to take me in today. The
OB/GYN did a standard pelvic exam and said
that he could feel some sort of lump on my
uterus, but couldn't do an ultrasound
because the ultrasound tech had already
left for the day.
Besides, he isn't too terribly concerned,
because he said it's probably just a
fibroid tumor. He also said that, even
though my urologist has had since April
17th to send it over, he still hadn't sent
over the results of my CT scan. The next
time that they could fit me in again for
an ultrasound is the 19th.
Rosie, thanks for the concern, but I think
my urologist ruled that out when he looked
at the CT scan. Or at least he better
have... This total lack of communication
and feeling like my first two doctors had
no desire to actually talk with me was
driving me nuts. (I'm sorry about the
run-around you received with doctors just
looking for easy answers... Where's Dr.
House when you need him?)I'm just glad my
OB/GYN at least actually took me seriously
when I handed him my two month calendar I
had filled up with exactly what symptoms I
had and when. Of course, that might have
been because my sister was there, and he
had delivered a few of my sister's
children...

Your doctor may not be terribly concerned
because he is not the one suffering with
the symptoms - 19th?????? That is crazy -
he doesn't know if it is a fribroid tumor
or something more serious. Honestly, I do
not understand what has happened to the
medical profession. Are they concerned
with money or people?????? I feel so bad
for you - try and get an earlier
appointment.

Another Update Posted: 05-25-08 07:54am
When I went back for my appointment on the
19th, they did do a vaginal ultrasound and
found absolutely nothing wrong. The
previous cyst wasn't there. My uterus
appeared to be a normal size. They
compared the ultrasound to the CT from
last month and said that whatever the
issue was must have resolved itself. I do
agree with them that the pain hasn't been
as bad in the last couple weeks; however,
over about the last five years I've
randomly had stabbing pains like I sat on
a spike--but it mainly happens only when
I'm walking or lying down--these used to
happen once every few months or so, but
they've been happening for about the past
month every couple days, sometimes several
times a day. It just seems rather odd to
me that as one issue appears to be
resolving itself, something else shows up.
