hi i am 7 months postpartum and have not had one period so far i was not breastfeeding and i am not pregnant, my hormone levels have been checked as have my ovaries they are all normal i did have a bit of retained placenta after the birth did not have a curet what could be wrong with me?

Given your symptoms you are probably experiencing amenorrhea (period missing for more than 3 months). Amenorrhea can happen after delivery especially if you are breastfeeding. Even if you are not breastfeeding or not pregnant again, your hormonal axis hypothalamus-pituitary-ovaries somehow remained blocked. Lack of progesterone indicates that there is no ovulation which usually leads to amenorrhea.


Retained placental pieces after delivery usually cause irregular bleeding (metrorrhagia) not amenorrhea.
