I shake violently. It starts in the legs.
If I control the legs, my chest/torso
starts shaking. Then the head starts.
Sometimes the legs, chest and head all
shake without control. This started at
the age of 42 (three years ago). Could
this just be anxiety or should I see a
Neurologist? I shake now even with the
40mg Propanalol twice a day, the Elavil
and the Xanax.

Current medical status: I shake
violently.
Current medical treatment: Depression and
Anxiety - Elavil 25mg/ night ; Xanax 2
mg/day for two days. Have been on lots of
SSRI's and they make me shake even worse.
Was on Seroquel 100mg/night for four
weeks. Prior to that for two years on
Lexapro, Seroquel and Klonopin. Was off
these medications for 4 months. On
Propanlol for a while also. This helped
for about a week.
There could be many reasons for shaking
(tremor):
1. Parkinson disease and other
extra-pyramidal disorders;
2. Medicaments – including various
medications you have taken;
3. Essential tremor – genetically
conditioned;
4. Alcohol abuse, smoking, coffee;
5. Brain damage by various reasons;
6. Physiological reasons (stress,
tiredness, exercising…);
7. Endocrine disorders (hyperthyroidism,
hypoglycemia…);
8. Liver disorders, respiratory disorders,
malabsorption;
9. Poisoning with heavy metals;
10. Mental disorders (anxiety);
11. Other reasons.
It could be anxiety but it would be better
if you consulted a neurologist about this
problem.
