is it normal to get an errection during a
d.r.e. I also ejaculated to. i feel quite
embarassed about the whole thing. i was
wearing a gown but the doctor could see my
errection through it and when i stood up
she saw the spot on gown where i
ejaculated. i feel like such a loser.

Yes I think it is quite common. I always
start to get hard when the doctors checks
my testicles and foreskin. By the time he
does the DRE I'm at full attention. He is
quite aware I have an erection as after
the DRE he skins the foreskin back to
check for fluid (I forget the name but its
produced by the prostate). Last time I
actually asked the doctor if this is
comman and he said yes, it happens to him
too. I don't think there is anything to
be ashamed about. I have never ejaculated
but if I did I think the Doc would just
hand me a tissue. He gives me one after
the DRE anyway. While I don't like
getting hard in front of another man - he
is my doctor. I think I like it better
because he is a man and the same things
happens to him.

im more embarrassed because my doctor is
female. i did my best to stay flaccid for
the first part of exam ( genital exam )
but lost it during dre. i got the same
thing to after dre, the checking for
fluid. but i was still erect and she
squeezed the tip of glans and a little
leaked out. i dont know what the point of
that was, all it did was add to my
embarrassment.

My doctor said the reason for looking for
fluid is to check that the prostate is
making the fluid and therefore is one way
to check it's health. I know it is
embarassing but I think it is worth this
to be healthy. Maybe you should consider
changing doctors and getting a male
doctor. After all, these exams are
something you should have done every year
for the rest of your life. This is partly
why I chose a male doctor - thinking he
experiences the same things and as it
turned out when I asked my doctor he said
he does. Anyway just don't stop the exams
they'er too important.

It's actually a GOOD thing that you got an
erection during your DRE. It means that
all your bits and pieces are functioning
as they should. Your penis should respond
to having the prostate stimulated like
that. Not to worry, it is what your doctor
would expect.
