BC pills, sex and bleeding
Posted: 06-01-08 16:17pm

I began taking BC for the first time on May 9 (a Friday and the first day of my period). I take the pills every night between 10 and 11:30. I had sex with no other birth control this past Wednesday morning (May 28 ) so I was on week 3 of my active pills. I noticed pain in my lower abdomen on Thursday and by Friday (the first day of my inactive pill week) I started having bleeding. Sometimes heavy and sometimes light.

Is this normal? My period isn't due until this Friday (June 6). Is this a complication from my partner ejaculating in me? Could I be pregnant? I didn't know if this bleeding is normal or not. It is enough for me to wear a small tampon to prevent leakage onto my underwear.

Your period is due during your week of inactive pills. It is completely normal for it to come anytime during that week, even on the first day of starting the inactive pills. It is far too early to be experiencing any signs of pregnancy, and the only possible complications of ejaculate STD's, or allergic reactions. Ejaculate cannot cause a period to start. Also, it is normal for your period to be different than your normal ones because BC causes a lot of changes in your body.

Thanks! So should I start a new pack of pills if this bleeding is my period since I'm a first day starter? Or should I finish out my inactive pills and then start the new pack?
