Birth Control and Hypertension Posted: 04-03-08 06:14am
My doctor is having me do a 24 hour blood
pressure monitoring starting tonight
because when I was there yesterday it was
high (140 / 90). Depending on the
results, she may decide to take me off the
pill due to increased chances of blood
clots and heart problems. My concern is
that I started taking the pill to regulate
my menstrual cycle and I've even planned
my wedding around it next year according
to the fact of me staying on the pill. Is
there any other way of regulating my
menstrual cycle without using something
that will increase my chance of heart
problems? I'm going to ask my doctor when
I go back, but just wanted to see if
anyone else has suggestions that I can
bring with me.
Are any other risk factors for heart
attack or blood clotting present? Some
examples of risk factors include: smoking,
obesity, low physical activity, increased
blood cholesterol, diabetes, enlarged
veins in legs...?
