Birth Control and pulling out
Posted: 05-15-08 08:34am

Ok. Blunt and straight to the point. This might even sound like a dumb question to ask.

My fiance and I are not using condoms (a decision made by both of us). I am on birth control. Is it necessary to pull out? Will I be covered if he ejaculates inside me?

Confused Some say yes, others say no. Help?

you should be if you take your pills correctly...pulling out isn't a very effective method at all anyway, its more psychological than anything i think..."if we pull out i cant get pregnant"...not true..most pills prevent pregnancy 3 different ways :prevents ovulation, makes the mucous much thicker making it more difficult for the sperm to reach the egg if ovulation does happen to occur, and it does something to the uterine lining which makes it more difficult for the fertilization to occur as well...so pulling out I've been told personally really makes no difference at all, its just a preference really and all in your head, maybe there are others that think differently

You should be fine, taking BC alone will prevent you from pregnancy, although it will not protect you against STIs which is where the condom comes in! Good to hear that you are taking BC seriously!
Pulling out is NOT effective at preventing pregnancy when you are not using any form of BC as I have been told that it is possible to get pregnant from the precum

Of course you'll be covered if he ejaculates inside you...

if you weren't, why would you bother taking birth control??

Of course, it's not 100% effective... but it's pretty close. Pulling out is not reliable, the pill is. Just make sure you're taking it reliably, not throwing up after you take it, and not taking other medications (or herbal supplements) that make it ineffective.
