Birth control pills and pregnancy Posted: 03-12-08 05:46am
I have been taking birth control for
almost 3 years now. I recently had sex
unprotected the week before i were to
start my green inactive pills. I have now
started them and i am on my third day now
of taking them and still no period...I'm
extremely worried to why this may be. I
can count one one hand the times that my
periods have been irregular since i've
been on birth contol, so i'm starting to
freak out. Is there a real possiblity that
i could be pregnant or is it normal for my
cycle to come late on birth control. I'm
taking ortho-cept (desogestrel/ethinyl
estradiol) 28 day pak

If you used contraceptive pills properly,
chances for getting pregnant are less than
1% but pregnancy is still possible. When
using contraceptive pills, a period should
still happen while taking the inactive
pills. That period is not a real period
(menstruation) because there was no
ovulation previously. This false period
could be very weak and short. You should
wait until all your inactive pills are
taken. If your period doesn’t come, you
may want to perform a pregnancy test to
exclude pregnancy.
