bleeding, empty sac at 5 weeks pregnant Posted: 06-12-08 17:10pm
Hi there my name is Jennifer and I was
hoping someone would help me... im a
little confused. I had my period on MAy
15th and on MAy 28th I didnt feel right.
I took two pregnany tests and they both
came out positive. I went to my doctor
and she drew blood and the results were i
was 3 weeks pregnant with an hcg level of
491. June 2nd i went to the doctor again
and my hcg levels went to 1339. On June
10th I had light spotting and was worried
so I went to the emergency and the doctor
said I was fine and my hcg levels were at
2618... from thar day on i couldnt stop
bleeding. The next day (june 11)i went to
emerg. again and my hcg levels were at
2649. From there they set up an
appointment for me to go to do an u/s. On
June 12th I went for an ultrasound and
based on the ultrasound my baby is 7 mm
and 5.6 weeks but were not able to see
anything in the sac.... they completed
another blood test and my hcg levels
dropped to 2587...62 less than the day
before.... the doctor said bc im bleeding
still ad my hcg levels dropped a bit I may
miscarry but to set another blood test in
5 days. I set up another appointment on
monday june 16th for some more blood work
and an u/s on the 19th... I just find it
weird that my doctor told me I was 3 weeks
pregnant and now all of a sudden I am 5.6
weeks pregnant based on the u/s? is it
normal for my hcg levels to drop a bit...n
I have gone from light spotting on Monday
to a little heavier on tues, to wearing a
pad on wednesday and thursday?? someone
pls let me know if you know anyone or if
you have had SOME KIND of the same
issue...THANKS!!!

Your doctor meant you were 3 weeks
gestational, but 5 weeks pregnant.
Pregnancy starts the first day of your
last period. Although your baby is only 3
weeks old, you're considered 5 weeks
pregnant. I hope that makes sense.
An empty sac itself is not really a cause
for worry. At 5 weeks your baby is tiny
and can be missed on an ultrasound. The
bleeding and drop in hCG is troublesome
though. Definitely go back for your
follow-up blood test.

I am 5 weeks and 3 days pregnant. Iwent to
the er on Sunday because of bleeding and
they gave me an sonogram which showed a
sac with nothing in it. My hcg level was
12330. The dr said I may be miscarrying. I
went to my dr on weds and had another
sonogram, the same thing nothing in sac.
But , my hcg level went up to 23600. My dr
says they should be seeing something with
levels this high. She is leaning toward a
miscarriage. I am getting another sonogram
and blood work done again next week. If
that doesnt go well she wants to get a
DNC. Anyone know anything? I dont want to
lose my baby. Cindy
