I have a question about blood and how long it lives outside the body. I've heard a lot of different things and a lot of different amounts of time that it lives. My question is and if someone could please answer that would be great. I need to know if I have to get tested. My mom is an ER nurse and she came home last night and she knows im finiky about blood..in fact I'm OCD about blood it scares me big time. Anyways, she told me when she walked in that she had gotten some blood on her shoes and no to freak out. I did not notice a lot except for some on the bottom. This is where I get anxious... I walked on the kitchen floor where she walked with her shoes barefoot and I kind of began freaking because I have a small almost needle ***** looking cut on a toe. She said that it had been an hour or so since the whole thing happened plus her 15 min drive home. Would the virus be dead? Should I freak out over this? I would love some feedback. What a great idea for a forum. Thanks

If the cut is healing over then there is no risk. If the virus you are asking about is HIV, it dies 30 seconds to a minute after it hits the air.
