I have a question. I had a endoscopy
performed in May of '07. I was told by
the gi doctor that he was certain that I
have sprue (Celiac) because of the
scalloping and flattened vila (sp?) that
he saw during the procedure. He sent if
off for a biopsy and told me to go on a cd
diet. The biopsy came back positive for
CD. So I stayed on the diet and went back
to see him Sept/Oct '07. He did a blood
test and called me and said it was
"normal". When I went back for my
check-up today he said he wanted to do
another endoscopy in May (1 yr from my dx)
because he wanted to confirm the CD and
make sure things had healed and because he
thought it was a little weird that my
blood test was normal. I am a little
confused as to the real purpose of having
this test repeated again. Is he trying to
tell me that I don't have CD because the
blood test was normal? I thought my CD
was confirmed when the biopsy came back
positive. Can anyone enlighten me on
this? I was under the impression that the
blood test were not always accurate and
that if you have been off gluten for a
period of time, it will come back normal.
Any comments would be appreciated.

I imagine your doctor wants to be sure
that the damage in your small intestine
has been repaired by you being on a strict
100% gluten free diet. He is not telling
you that you are not a celiac. Many
physiscians like to take a little peek to
be sure that the body is healing and that
the patient has been compliant with their
diet. I don't know why your doc would be
confused by your blood test, though. It
should be normal if you are on the diet
and well healed. That is strange. Good
luck with the procedure!
