My mom, age 86 has breast cancer that has moved to her femur, spine, skull and arms. She is still quite mobile and is wondering if she should "baby" her bones by staying off her feet, or should she try to strengthen them by walking and load bearing exercises? Anyone have an opinion?

Hi!
Bone metastasis can weaken bones and increase the risk of fracture (break of bone).
Patients with bone metastasis frequently have bones that are more fragile and care is needed when performing daily activities.
You need to consult with her health care provider to determine which activities are safe to continue and which activities to discontinue, cause she/he knows the type and size of metastasis.

Was she suggested additional therapy when the bone metastasis were found?

Thank you for your response.
She was not given any information.
We will give the doctor a call to see if the cancer is inside the bone, which would mean she should probably "baby" the bones, or attached to the outside, which would allow her more clearance to strengthen them.

I will keep you posted.

You are welcome!

Bone metastasis are usually treated to decrease pain, prevent further bone breakdown and to restore function to patients with bone metastasis.
You should be aware about complications due to bone metastasis in her spine.
These can lead to spine cord compression and resulting symptoms like back pain, walking difficulty with pain, numbness and weakness in the legs, or abdominal area and problems with bowels or bladder (losing control).

Waiting for your post!
Blessings for you and your mum!
