Q: Bone scan results

New User, Becoming EHEALTHy
I recently had a bone scan done because of having some joint pain. The bone scan showed that i have degenerative bone disease in my knees and it also showed that I have a hot spot in my left orbit and in my fifth and sixth ribs on the right side.

I am scared that this could be bone cancer. I asked my doctor when I talked to him about it and he said I don't think so but I want to do some more tests. He ordered an MRI of my left orbit w/o contrast and he also ordered an xray of my right rib cage.

Has anyone else had an abnormal uptake on their left orbit and had it be something else? I did not have any injury to either of these areas. I'm very scared.

Hi!
Having "hot spot" on bone scan, means that some abnormal process was/is happening in your bones (the radioactive substance, is collected within the bone tissue at spots of abnormal metabolism or bone tissue growth).
That process can be fracture (bone trauma not seen on ordinary x-ray), focus of infection, degeneration, bone tumor or metastatic tumor.

Have you noticed some visual loss recently?
