botox for peripheral neuropathy safe? Posted: 03-01-08 18:03pm
I have a history of left common peroneal
neuropathy due to compartment syndrom
after an injury 9 yrs ago. It improved
greatly after I changed careers,
permitting a long period of rest (1-2
yrs), along with continued PT.
It was aggravated by re-injury a year ago.
My current symptoms since then are
numbness, parasthesias, fatigiability and
mild weakness of the dorsiflexors/evertors
of the foot, with mild anterior tibialis
atrophy. I cannot get any prolonged rest
due to continuous requirements for
physical activity; I went back to my
original job some time ago. It is
continually aggravated by activity on my
feet.
A neurologist currently has me taking
gabapentin and amitryptiline. Gabapentin
didn't work in the past. He says he wants
to do Botox injections if this approach
doesn't work. I am concerned about the use
of Botox in an area of known motor
dysfunction.
Any thoughts?

Sorry no one
responded.............hopefully this can
help someone else. I ahve been onso many
differnt meds t try to control the
headaches. I am presently on Notriptyline
50 mg a day............headaches are fewer
but not gone completly. My next step would
have been to opt for botox injections,
which I would have gladly taken. I've seen
what this can do for plastic surgery. I do
not see any difference in not knowing the
ingredients in all the various meds I've
taken in the past and knowing what botox
is...........as long as it works I'm all
for it. Beats being in pain.
