Q: Brain Contusions

Hello, first off I am sorry if this is the wrong forum but it was the closest match that I found.

About 10 years ago now I was involved in a serious car accident that left me with ~5 brain contusions. I was not expected to live but came out of it with little-to-no side effects. But now, 10 years later, I am starting to notice problems. I experience severe head aches, so bad that at times it affects my eyesight. My vision blurs and takes a good amount of time to focus on different objects, all light just plain hurts and I find myself wearing sun glasses while inside to try and ease the pain. I was told to not get overheated, well I live in Texas and my job requires me to work outside from time to time. I notice on days where I do overheat the headaches tend to be more severe. Am I actually causing more damage when I overheat, or is overheating just aggravating the damage I already have sustained?

Also, I have read on multiple sites that one of the symptoms of severe head injuries is exhaustion or being tired all the time. I feel this way a lot. Every day it seems I have to push myself a little harder to get through it. Is this just my brain “thinking” my body is tired? Sometimes I wake up from a full nights sleep only to still be tired. Physically I am in great shape (minus the brain damage, *chuckle*), no reason at all for me to be tired.
Is pushing myself to keep going the wrong thing to do? I have a great job and a great life, I do not want either to change.

Worried,
Wade

Post Head Injury symptoms.
Because of your previous head injury you should run your symptoms by your DR.
Another thing to conside is dehydration which can also produce monster headaches and some of the other symptoms you mention.
I heat Texas can be sizzling so HYDRATE well everyday, unless you have a medical condition that would prevent you doing so.
Also you could wear a hat to protect yourself a little from the beating sun!
Many of us are less tolerant to weather extremes as we age.
Unless your body temperature is outside normal ranges it would seem unlkiely that you are creating more damage but again
Ask your DR to be sure!
Regarding the fatigue....Do you awaken during the night?
Have you ever been checked for Sleep apnea?
How about Anemia?
That can make you feel tired all the time too.

Hope you feel better soon.
