When out shopping I do it in changing rooms and on toilets but mostly in my car. Reyna is 6 weeks old and when my milk lets down she abruptly pulls off and gets sprayed in the face and everywhere else. The whole blanket thing falls off too easily and I have a black shaw but it's hard to control my milk flow with it on and my milk ends up wetting everything in site. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but it's easier to just pull my shirt up and say "heck with covering up!" At my ex's house, his mom sends me back to her room to feed Reyna even tho I said I was perfectly comfortable feeding her in mixed company but she didn't want her son and husband to see so I obliged. At home, I really don't care at all. People can avert their eyes.

I breast fed in public, if Mika needed to fed then she was going to be fed whether people liked it or not. I used to cover up religiously when she was little because my breasts are huge and you'd practically see everything if i didn't but once she got bigger i didn't bother anymore, Mika gets hot very quickly and when she gets hot she gets grumpy. I used to go upstairs when i was at my sister's house but i stopped after a while, i only went upstairs because her children are still young and i thougth it could confuse or worry them a bit and i was right, my nephew thought she was eating my and got really upset once when i went upstairs because he thought she'd eat me and i'd never come back. Ever since then i've breast fed in front of them. I'm still breastfeeding Mika now and she just turned one and she's proving very difficult to wean but i'd still do it in public now if i needed to but she only feeds at night now

My question is why does this bother people? We see more boobs on television, in magazines, and at the beach than the typical breastingfeeding mom shows! Boobs were created to feed our children NOT for sexual pleasure. If it bothers people to see a woman in public feeding her child with her body THEN STOP looking! Usually I have noticed when feeding in public (yes I do cover up) that I can tell when it bothers people around me because they constantly keep looking over at me to see if I have stopped. I just think this is the most natural thing to do and yes I wear less clothes at a beach or the pool than nursing my baby in public even the few times that I have forgotten my coverup at home.

I think women have a right to breastfeed in public. I NIP all the time. I don't think women need to cover themselves or should feel ashamed for doing something natural like feeding their baby. DD would not stand a shawl or to be covered, plus it's hot here. State law protects the right of women to BF in public. I'm hardly standing there flashing my boob for all to see, most of it is covered by the baby and my shirt. It makes me happy to see women BF'ing in public, and I don't care if they're covered or not. We shouldn't be ashamed to BF. It makes me sad when BF moms get discouraging glances or even forced out of places. It shouldn't be that way.
