Hi there, I have a severe problem. About
6 months ago, I started getting an itchy
head. I asked my Mom ( who is at my home
alot but lives in her own home) if she
too, was itchy and she said yes. The
strange thing is that my daughter who does
live with me, isn't itchy and has no
signs of anything out of the ordinary.
Well, anyway, my Mom and I figured we had
gotten head lice as we found some very
small black roundish bugs and some clear
eggs. That was about 6 months ago and we
have tried "everything" we could.
Numerous prescriptions, the
listerine/vinegar treatment, baby oil,
cocoa oil etc. We spend literly hours a
day picking out our hair and we are
starting to think these are not head lice
at all! Does anyone know of anything that
it could be? A different bug perhaps?
They bite. I have also felt a few bites
elsewhere on my body and they do leave
little bite marks. One day I felt a bite
on my arm and couldn't see anything so got
my magnifying glass and could see a very,
very, small bug, It was narrow and looked
like a miniture fly but it was much
narrower, we also have found something
that looks like a cocoon, with an antennae
sort of thing at the top. Is this
bilogical warfare? We cannot get rid of
these? Can anyone help me? I have some
flea shampoo (my cats) should I try that?
Is it safe for humans? We are immaculate
people and constantly keep up on the
cleaning involved to get rid of lice. I
know it's not from being dirty but I also
know you have to be consistent when
cleaning your home. Please, please,
please, any help or insight would be
greatly appreciated, Thx so much

I would go out of my mind if I was
bothered with something like this, let
alone for 6 months. I am not really sure
what you have. There are 3 different
kinds of lice. Since you are getting it
on other parts of your body, it might be
the "body louse" which does look a little
different. It's good that your daughter
doesn't have them. Some people just don't
attract bugs or it might be the soap she
is using?
Since you have cats, I would say that they
might be the root of the problem. There
is a product by Avon called "skin so soft"
and it has some sort of bug repellent in
it that you can wash your cats and your
own hair in....there are bug repellents in
the skin so soft line, but you can buy the
soap or shampoo and it will work too...or
you could use all of them at the same time
to be more aggressive about it. My sister
in law tried it on her nasty dog lol and
her kids and it worked really well. That
might help.
Anyways, I found a good site that you can
look at some sketches of what the
different kinds look like and see if your
symptoms and how it looks can solve your
problem. I hope you find the answer, not
matter what...let us know what it is and
how to get rid of it if you do.

Do NOT use Skin So Soft on your cats. It
is not approved for animals, ONLY humans!
If you think it might be fleas, you can
use Dawn liquid dish soap. The chemical
properties in Dawn kill fleas and it won't
hurt or irritate the animal's skin. It is
also safe to use on humans.

it COULD be lice Posted: 05-05-08 14:00pm
This is a picture of the lice life cycle.
There is the nit (egg), nymph (baby), and
adult.

Sorry, that was probably bad advice:
thanks Marianne. The only reason I
mentioned it was because my sister in law
did it and it worked and her dog was fine.
You should probably ask your vet about
what treatment is best for your cats.

It's not safe to use human products on
animals, mainly because sometimes the
animal's skin is sensitive. It can cause
an allergic reaction or further skin
allergies.

Yeah I don't have pets so I didn't think
of that...6 kids is enough without
pets...Except maybe when they are older
they can have their own if they want to
take care of it on their own.
