My doctor and I are trying to avoid a
repeat cesarean, so she keeps talking
about not inducing if I go over my dates
until my cerivx is "ripe". I know that's
talking about effacement, but I'm not sure
what percentage they consider ripe. Is it
the full 100% or can you be ripe at 50%?

Your cervix is ripe when it starts to
efface. Before that, it is very hard and
doesn't like to open, even with
medication. If you go from 0-50%
overnight, sounds like it's ripe. But if
you go from 0-50% in 2-3 wks, it might not
want to open all the way yet.
Can I steal your doctor? Mine won't do
VBACs...
Good Luck!

Is this something you are considering
right now?
I'd change doctors. A lot of doctors will
do VBACs. Maybe there is a midwife in your
area who will gladly oblige.

I hope not now! lol, Angelique is only
10wks old...
But yes, I really don't want another
cesarean if I can help it. I asked my
midwife how long I'd have to wait to get
pregnant to be eligible for a VBAC, and
she said they do them at all. If I do get
pregnant (hopefully) again, I will
DEFINITELY be going to a different
hospital, I can't say anything great about
the one I delivered at...

My doctor is awesome. She is very
supportive. You need a new doctor! The
doctor's work for you and they should
support whatever feasible birth plan you
have. I agree, try a mid wife. They
encourage VBACs.
