childhood leukemia symptoms
Posted: 03-13-08 14:03pm

my 7 yr. old daughter has had a low grade to 106.3 fever since dec. 18th, pain around her belly button, shortness of breath with play, and now 4 swollen knots in her neck. I'm still trying to get in with an Infectious Disease Dr. because no blood work has been done. Do these sound like leukemia symptoms?? I'm just a nervous wreck. Shes not herself, just quiet, tired all the time, and lost 7 pounds. HELP Someone tell me something.. Thanks, mom

Is your daughter complaining of pain in her bones or joints?
Does she appear pale?
Have you noticed that she bruises and bleeds very easily, like experiencing frequent nosebleeds, or bleed for an unusually long time after even a minor cut?

She hasn't done anything to have a cut or bleed. Only been to school 3 times in the last 3 weeks. She is pale and tired all the time, and she whines alot. So the bleeding we don't know. She did have some bruises in the last couple of weeks but they're gone now. I asked her about the joints and bones hurting. She says now. But these new lumps on her neck are bothering me.

Does she have sore throat or had one in December?
Have you noticed some swelling around her eyes?
Does she has some rash on her body?
Is she experiencing sore muscles?

Your daughter maybe has mono infection. But, first she needs regular blood test to be done. This test will give enough informations for her doctor to suspect mono or leukemia for possible diagnosis.
Further test will be performed to confirm or exclude one of the diagnosis.

Thinking of you!
Best wishes to you and your family!

I forgot to tell you not to allow her to engage in physical activities, like playing with many kids, to avoid possible spleen damage.
Possible diagnosis, leukemia and mono, are causing spleen and liver enlargement (that's why she probably feels abdominal pain or fullness or swelling) and enlarged spleen is very vulnerable. Even, light pressures on spleen in left upper part of abdomen under ribcage, can cause rupture and bleeding of spleen, which can be fatal.

I don't wanna cause you more worries, but, I think it's better to be aware of possible serious complications.
Please, visit a doctor as soon as possible.
I hope what ever it is, it will be manageable.
