I've had back pain all my life. I can
remember being 16 years old and bending
over after a long day working at McDonalds
to untie my shoes and my back going out. I
could not stand up straight for almost two
weeks had to stay in bed flat doing
ice/heat back and forth. My back would go
out a lot I was told I could not lift over
a certain weight and all this other stuff.
Long story short lots of trips to the ER
lots of doctors flash forward 15
years....
I've been to massage therapy but in order
for anything good to come of it I'd have
to do 3x a week at least. I've done chiro.
but most of the time the doctors are too
scared to even "crack" anything due to the
amount of muscle tension.
A few years ago I did something to my back
that pushed it over the edge the pain was
so badly and I was having breathing
trouble. The doctor I went to diagnosed it
as a pinched nerve and the pain was
causing anxiety attacks which was causing
more pain. He gave me anxiety medication
(alarazapam) and pain medication (flexirl)
that did seem to work if I took the
anxiety meds first then the pain meds. The
pain subsided but never fully.
Since then I have had pain in the shoulder
blade sometimes into my neck and most of
the time down my left hand. At times my
left hand goes numb and gets very cold.
I'm left handed and have a 15 month old
and pretty much if I use my left hand for
one day for the next three to four days
the pain is so bad I cannot begin to
explain and that's on top of the usual
back pain I've just gotten use to.
I'm 30 years old. I've been told by
doctors that the x-rays of my back look
like that of an 80 year olds. I'm in daily
pain no matter what I do and I don't know
what to do. Whenever I go to a doctor I
feel like they are not taking me seriously
or think I'm just trying to get pain meds.
Wow this is so much longer than I would
have thought but any suggestions or
opinions would be very helpful. I have
printed out a bunch of info and am going
to the doctor today but I don't have much
hope I'm tired of being given Motrin and
sent home. I feel like this is more than
just little pain and it's gone on for
years so at what point does it get
categorized as "chronic pain"

Hello RiOdorque,
Have you been to a spinal surgeon for his
or her advice? Also, have you had MRI
images taken of your back?
