cysts side effect of clomid ? Posted: 03-04-08 05:37am
Hi
I am wondering whether anyone out there
has been in this situation, and could
offer some advice.
I am 40. Myself and my partner have been
trying for a baby for 1 year without
success.
My doctor examined me and said my ovaries
and cervix were fine. My periods are
every 30 days (not heavy but painful).
My doctor referred me to a gynecologist
and I underwent a laparoscopy on 20
December. The gynecologist said there
were some signs of endometriosis (more
around the bowel), and any present near
the uterus he moved to one side, away from
the uterus (!). Other than that, he said
everything was fine.
My partner has had his sperm analysed, all
ok. I have had the day 21 blood test and
thyroid test, all OK.
The gynecologist prescribed 50mg of
clomid, as a first course of treatment, to
take on day 2 to day 6 of my cycle. I
took them and had no side effects,
although my period only lasted 2.5 days
(normally 4- 5 days). Today is cycle day
11 and I have been for a scan. I am quite
confused.
The nurse said I had 3 cysts on my right
side and none on my left. The uterus
lining was fine. She believed these to be
cysts due to their shape and appearance -
they had septum running between each one.
She said they could be removed with
another laparoscopy(!),or as part of the
scan procedure.
I still have to go for a day 21 blood test
to check for progesterone levels. She
advised that days 14 to 16 would be right
for intercourse, but did not say whether
or not to bother this month due to the
cysts. I also have to stop taking clomid
and go for a day 5 scan next month.
Can anyone advise on the following:
Are these cysts likely to be due to the
clomid (I would have thought they would be
evident from the laparoscopy/doctors exam
if I had them already)?
Why have I been asked to stop taking
clomid, are the cysts an effect of
hyperstimulation?
Why do I have to return for a day 5 scan?
What will this show?
Can I still get pregnant this month?
I know I should have asked, but I seemed
to have so many questions that I never
thought of these until I left the
hospital!
