Colon cancer symptoms and tests Posted: 04-15-08 06:29am
I am 36 with no family history of cancer
beside leukemia in grandmother and uncle
on other side. I began having stomach
trouble about 6 months ago while pregnant,
a lot of mucus in stool and alternating
diarrhea, constipation, and normal stool.
After I had the baby I started having
bright red blood in stool, but it stopped
a few weeks later. I am still having a
lot of white to yellowish/brown mucus in
stool, I have light stomach cramps on the
left side but they do move around too. I
still am having alternating constipation
and diarrhea and normal stool but more
diarrhea. My stool look different too,
they have different colors and
consistancies, litle light color and then
dark brown but not black. I went to ER
with stomach cramps and they did a cat
scan without contrast, a abdominal xray,
and blood work. All were normal, the
blood was great, the xray was normal and
the cat scan showed no obstruction or
diverticulitis.Does this sound like colon
cancer? Is these tests assuring?

According to your symptoms (mucous and
blood in the stools, abdominal cramps,
constipation…) there are several
possibilities that need to be checked:
intestinal infection, ulcerative colitis,
Chron’s disease, celiac disease,
diverticulitis, hemorrhoids, colon cancer
etc. A CT-scan, X-ray image, and blood
work are not enough to exclude all the
possibilities in your case. You may also
need to perform an occult blood test,
microbiological examination of the stool,
and most important – colonoscopy.
You may want to consult an internist
about this.
