condylar hyperplasia treatment
Posted: 04-11-08 13:58pm

I have lower midline asymmetry... my chin deviates to the left, and my whole mouth looks skewed in relation to the rest of my face.

I went to an orthodontist and he said i have condylar hyperplasia, that one of my condyles is bigger than the other. He hasn't measured anything yet, he told me this just by looking at my x-ray.

My teeth are crooked and i have some crowding as well.

He said it would help me tremendously to get braces, cause my asymmetry has a lot to do with the way my teeth are meeting.

I have some popping on my right joint when i yawn and sometimes when i eat. I'm worried that with braces it will become full blown tmj, cause right now it's just annoying, it doesn't really hurt and i haven't had a locked jaw or anything. My neck muscles are a little sore, though, but mostly only when i press on them. Is there any way to be sure that getting braces won't affect the joints negatively?

He said that with just braces, and maybe after a splint like thing ( i don't remember what he called it) to level out the difference in size of my condyles.

Does this sound logical?
