Pregnancy Answer A5635

Age: 40
Number of times pregnant: 8
Number of live-born births: 7

The age above 35 increases significantly the risk of congenital abnormalities in the baby. There are several examination techniques that can be preformed in order to check the baby’s health long before the delivery. And ultrasound, blood laboratory results, and nuchal translucency are ones in which the risk for further complications is minimal. Amniocentesis is a method in which amniotic fluid is taken and the cells floating in it are examined. Embroscopy and fetoscopy involve inserting a probe directly into the woman’s uterus. The last three methods are considered invasive and are performed only if needed.

The age over 35 does not mean that you must not get pregnant again. It only means that extra precautions have to be taken. Consulting with your gynecologist about this decision and about other health issues that might influence the decision is obligatory.
