Contraceptive pills and pregnancy Posted: 03-17-08 09:34am
I had last month's (the leftover inactive
pills that I never take) and this month's
pill boxes in a drawer in my nightstand. I
meant to throw out last month's pills, but
must have thrown them in my nightstand
thinking that they were this month's. I
took all of the week 1 active (white)
pills. During week 2, when I should have
been taking the week 2 active (light blue)
pills, I had actually been taking the
inactive pills.
I don't know the exact start date of my
last period, but Feb 29/Mar 1 is a very
close estimate. I had unprotected sex
with my fiance throughout weeks 1 and 2.
I had extreme cramping and a "second
period" during week 2. Is the
cramping/bleeding likely due to my coming
off of the pill accidentally?
According to an online ovulation calendar,
my peak fertility days were during the
week when I was taking the inactive pills.
Barring fertility problems on either my
or my fiance's part, is there a chance
that I am not pregnant? How soon can I
test accurately?

If you were taking inactive pills instead
of “week-2”-active pills, you may be
under great risk to get pregnant if you
don’t use additional contraceptive
method. The “second period” can be
due to sudden abortion of active pills.
When the estrogen hormonal level drops,
endometrium desquamates and bleeding
occurs. That bleeding is similar to
menstruation but fertilization during that
bleeding is very unlikely.
You may want to do a pregnancy test at the
end of March 2008.
