Q: Coping with a molar pregnancy
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 23rd, 2009
If you have a molar pregnancy in say june, and you get pregnant in january, are you gonna have a horrible pregnancy? I had one in june and the doctor said that I have to wait 6 months to try to get pregnant again, but I took a pregnancy test and it said it was positive. I called the doctor today and talked to a nurse and she seemed very concerned, the thing is the hospital I went to said that I was the first person they've ever meet to have a molar pregnancy. So does anybody know if this is gonna be a horrible pregnancy for me or will there be a chance that i'll have a normal one? I'm so freaked out.

Molar pregnancy is characterized by a mole forming in the uterus instead of an embryo. Vaginal bleeding with pieces of the mole can appear thus raising the suspicion. Avoiding another pregnancy one year after a molar pregnancy is recommended. There are about 1-2% chances that the next pregnancy will also be a molar pregnancy. An ultrasound can easily diagnose it. If no mole is present then the pregnancy is expected to have no further complications originating from the previous molar pregnancy.
