Generally there are 2 types of epilepsy:
1. Idiopathic (primary) – it has unknown reason, and
2. Symptomatic (secondary) – it is due to some other brain disease (tumor, malformation, infection, trauma…).
Epilepsy is proven with EEG but its etiology can be revealed with MRI or CT scan. Idiopathic epilepsy is typical for younger patients like you. Epilepsy that occurs for the first time in adult person is usually symptomatic. Idiopathic epilepsy usually requires life long treatment. You are lucky that your doctor found you appropriate medicine for your epilepsy. Any medical changes should be approved and monitored by neurologist.
You can consult some neurologist about this.
