Daily migraines Posted: 04-27-08 13:15pm
I am in desperate need of relief!!!
A little background info:
I have at least one migraine (if not
several) almost daily, and medications
don't seem to really help.
My migraines can range from just a bad
headache, to headache with nauseousness
(sometimes they can actually make me
physically ill) and sensitivity to light
and sound, to blurred vision. Sometimes, I
get the headache first, and then get all
the other stuff (nauseousness, etc.),
sometimes the other symptoms come before
the headache and get progressively worse
as my headache builds... and sometimes I
can even get the other symptoms without my
head even hurting... like right now, I
only have a very slight headache (maybe a
1 on the pain scale... although I can feel
it getting progressively worse)... but my
vision is blurry as hell.
Any suggestions?

Go see a neurologist. Anyone who suffers
from migraines should have at least one CT
scan of the head to rule out causes for
the headaches. There are many medications
that you can take. Magnesium 250-500 mg
per day is used for migraine headaches. I
hope this helps.

Well I do have a shunt, so I get routine
CT scans, because sometimes headaches can
be caused by a clogged shunt - I've had 12
revisions in my lifetime.
But my migraines are different than
"shunt" headaches.

Have you seen your neurosurgeon lately? Is
the shunt functioning properly. Have you
had the pressure checked lately?
Your symptoms do sound like migraine
headaches. Nausea and vomiting are, also,
common with shunt malfunction, as you
probably know. Speak with a neurologist
about your headaches. You can try the
magnesium. It will not hurt and may help.
There is current research indicating
magnesium deficiency as a cause for
migraine headaches. Vitamin B2 has been
efficacious to treat migraines in some
people. B vitamins are water soluble and
are not stored in the body so they are
safe to take as well.

Had it checked in
January... everything is good.

Hmm. Sounds like classic migraines. Has
you neurologist offered any suggestions
for treating the pain? A pain specialist
may offer you some suggestions for relief
as well. I hope you can find something to
help you. Nobody should live with that
type of pain.
