Crying or Very sad

Well let me start by saying im in shock and a mess!

I went to my doctor today for my yearly check up and to get on a form of birth control. He recommended the shot (depo) so I agreed to take it. I was sent to the lab to do the normal tests which included a pregnancy test.

2 hours later I cam back and was given the shot. About 1 hour after that I got a call asking me to come back to the office. When I came back the doctor told me I was pregnant and hes sorry but mistakes happend and that his nurse FORGOT to read the lab results.

I have a history of miscarriages and i recently lost a baby this Jan. All I was told was mrs. smith im sorry, mrs. smith i wish you the best. And how theres a small chance my baby might make it.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THERES A WAY TO UNDO THE SHOT, OR HOW IT WILL AFFECT MY PREGNANCY, JUST SOMETHING THAT MIGHT GIVE ME A PIECE OF MIND.

I got the Depo shot while pregnant also. I understand how you feel! It's scary! Unfortunately there's no way to reverse the shot. My Dr. told me the most common side affects of depo on a fetus are low birth weight/ premature birth. Also, there's been a few cases of deformed urethra in baby boys linked to depo (which is worrisome for me because I'm having a boy:(
In the long run, the chances of any of that happening are small. But the chances are still there.
If you ever need to talk to anyone, I'm here and in the same boat.
:]

oh my gosh that is outrageous !!!! That just angers me !!! Im sorry that happened to you, but like the previous poster said there are chances but her baby is healthy. I will keep you in my prayers.

Have you talked to an attorney about your rights if your baby has problems? I would definatelty do some research to see what your rights are. After all it could be a result of mal=practice. They are supposed to confirm pregnancy before any birth control is given. Lots of law offices give free consults

I'm actually the head paralegal at a Medical Malpractice firm. I'm in CO., but for the most part the laws are the same everywhere. If you want to talk I'd be happy to answer some questions for you. I can't believe how outrageous that is, especially if you already have a history of misacariages. I'm really sorry to hear that and hope it all works out. I think at the very least you should file a grevieance against the Dr's office. Again if you want to talk or have any questions about the legal aspect please feel free to message me. Good Luck.

WelL I thought i was the only one!
just last month i went to my obgyn for a well woman check up, and also asked to be put on some form of birth control. Since i was once on the depo shot i decided that was the best one for me! Well now this month i have been feeling very strange, i figured it could of also had been the depression medication she put me on> Well now here i am today i just got back from the clinic and i found out my symptoms are from my positive pregnancy test. Now the doctors nurse says the same thing the baby might not make it. Im found myself here trying to find out what my chances and rights are. even if the baby makes it what is the possibility he or she will be healthy? God bless you and keep in touch

Well the same thing has happened to me. I have not only been given 1 depo injection but I have been given 2 ( 1 in Jan. and 1 in April). Mt ob/gyn doctor was collecting urine but nor giving me a pregnancy test. I just found out that I was 17 weeks pregnant and I was given my 2 injections this year. I have contacted a lawyer because this is medical malpractice and if this has happened to anyone else, I strongly suggest you seek legal assistance. I have 2 children already and my husband and I weren't planning on anymore but I am pregnant with a boy and all my doctor had to say was that he was sorry and that it was his fault because a pregnancy test is suppose to be administered before any birth control is given because it is not 100% effective. I wish you all the best of luck and will include each of you in my prayers while praying for my baby to be born healthy.

Thanks

Im currently 22 weeks pregnant and I had the depo shot as well at the beginning of my pregnancy. My doctors as well didn't give me a blood test or urine test for pregnancy because I had just actually gotten off my 'friend'... But there doesn't seem to be much studies done on the effects of the depo. I as well asked my doctor, and other doctors, and the hospital and such..they all said the same to me that 'it's no different than a woman taking birth control pills during pregnancy and not realizing'..and at my ultrasounds the baby is apparently healthy and up to size and such..theres no concerns it seems Smile
