depression while on birth control Posted: 07-14-08 23:56pm
I have been depressed since may, and it
seems to get worse every week. I know it
started when i moved 400 miles from
everyone i know and love. Now i have no
friends failed my math class and have to
re take it for the third time.. it took me
2 months to find a job so ive been
stressed about money. My roomates drive me
insane.. and ill stop complaining.. ive
noticed i have to force myself to eat.. if
i could i would just lay in bed sleep and
cry all day. It's not the deepest
depression i have ever been in, but i dont
want it to get that bad again. I want
help, but dont have money to go to a Dr or
phsycyatrist and get help. I was going to
try St Johns Wort, but i know it limits
the efectivenss of birthcontrol and dont
want that incase i start feeling like i
want sex again.. (im on implanon if that
helps)
Is there anything i can do?
Thanks for any way you can help.

Are you by any chance in school? Most, if
not all colleges/schools offer
psychiactric help for free. If not,
schools are able to recommend you to
places on a sliding scale which can help
you pay for it at a lower cost.
I'm sorry to hear that you are in such a
rough place right now. I agree, I
wouldn't take st. john's wart if you
intend on being sexually active without
using another backup form of birth control
like a condom.
I'm not sure of any other natural
remedies, but I hope you are able to find
some help to pull you out of this. Taking
a warm bath or going on a nice walk
through the park always helps me.
Well, just a quick thing...B.C. does have
depression as a side effect. Not all women
experience this, but it's a possibility.
So, that may be aiding in the feelings
you've been having.
College seems to be a tough time. Even
though you are surrounded by people, it's
hard to develop strong relationships (at
least I felt) that will be supportive of
you during times like these. Like the
above poster, I would encourage you to see
what your school offers for you.
Can you call home and talk to someone
there just to vent every once in awhile?
That can also help relieve some stress.

Thanks for your replays. I decided i would
try to St Johns, and if that doesnt help
see if the college offers any counceling
or anything. I call home, but i dont want
to worry my family with my problems. I
feel like its hard to develup a strong
relationship with anyone here too. Im not
sure if the bc is causing the depressoin,
and all i have had is problems with it
since i had it put in, i wouldnt doubt it
if it was causing it. I think its mainly
the stress from living alone, working
having no one close to me stuff like
that.. I hope the St Johns helps
alittle
I know everyone has their own personal
story, but I just wanted to give you some
input about SJW:
My dad took it for awhile to relieve the
"down in the dumps" feeling. My mother
told me he had to stop because if he
didn't continue taking it, it made him
feel worse. I just want you to be careful
when you take things because can you
imagine feeling even more poopy??
Since you are enrolled in school, here are
some things you can do to pick yourself up
every now and then:
-go to counseling (yeah, we covered that)
-go to the health office to see if they
can give you any insight of the BC
-work out at the on-campus facility (meet
some people that go there regularly, AND
working out released endorphins...those
make you feel happy )
-join some clubs (I don't mean psycho
clubs but something you're genuinely
interested in)
-join some study groups (if they are
available...you maintain good
relationships with people if you are all
working on the same thing...it's a group
mentality thing)
Good luck, and keep posting if that helps
you- you've got a forum full of people
here to listen to you.
