developing bulemia ?

Hey everyone!
I'm pretty much new here, and I have a serious question. I'm afraid I might be "developing" bulimia. Now, I don't exactly do the typical bulimic throwing up after meals and everything, but I think I'm in the mindset. It's been the worst the past few weeks. I know I'm not fat when I look at it objectively, but that's not way I feel. I'm really preoccupied with my weight and how I look regarding my weight (constantly thinking about it), and I'm overly conscious of what I'm eating; I do eat a lot sometimes, but then I feel terrible about myself right after. Then, in the past few weeks I've been "feeling bulimic" - I very seriously consider throwing up what I've eaten, and I've actually tried 3-4 times unsuccesfully, the most recent being today, when I managed to make myself throw up a little bit. Basically, I'm afraid that I've become too obsessed with my weight and everything and that it will get more intense and I actually will make a habit of throwing up what I eat.

I don't have anyone to talk to about this at home; should I be worried? Should I do something about it?
Thanks!

You need to consider everything that happens to you when you do the binge and purge cycle. Your stomach acids are corrosive. The acid will destroy the tissue in your throat and the long range damage can be cancer. Your teeth will be destroyed by the acid as well. The enamel is eroded off your teeth with the stomach acid. Metabolically your body is thrown out of balance. Electrolytes (potassium, calcium, sodium, magnesium) levels are imbalanced and that can result in many different medical conditions. Your skin, hair, and nails are ravaged by purging. Purging takes its toll on the body in so many ways.

Our society has put enormous stress on us to have an ideal body. Everywhere you look the message is thinner is better. With bulimia there is a control issue going on. You can control what you eat and you can control what you get rid of by throwing up. You control what you look like with this cycle. Do you really? Bulimia will take over your life. Everything you do will be centered around what you eat and the ability to purge. You are a slave to the disorder.

Being conscious of your weight is fine. How you maintain it is where you can make some healthier decisions. Try using exercise to help you with your preoccupation about weight. It gives you an outlet for the stress and it is a healthy way to maintain your weight. You still control what you are doing about your weight but in a much more sensible and healthy way. There are so many ways to exercise. Find something you like to do. You will feel better physically and mentally. The bulimic urges will be squelched by replacing it with exercise.

You are on a slippery slope when you start into a bulimic pattern. Do something about it now. Stop yourself from going down this path. You can stop now. In the long run you will thank yourself for not going down the binge and purge path.

I hope this helps. Consider what I said. My best friend is 44 years old and has no teeth. She has dentures. Why? Bulimia. She has some serious gastrointestinal problems related to years of bingeing and purging. She looks back now and wishes she had never started. Think about it. It will effect you for years to come.
