I seem to have more discharge for a few days in the month before my period is this due to my period coming or something else?

It could be due to your period coming. If you think it could be related to an infection, you'll need to see your doctor and get tested.

It is normal. If the discharge is foul smelling or has an unusual color you need to seek medical treatment.
