drinking coke while pregnant...

i know that doctors say to limit caffine
while pregnant, but i wanted to know how
many of you drank cola-cola while pregnant
and how much would you drink
im a little worried that i maybe drank too
much..this seems stupid i know, im even
thinking to myself how dumb i sound asking
this. I shared a can with my fiance
earlier this evening, and just had a glass
of coke now, but flushed the rest [which
was half a can] down the sink because i
was worrying myself.
your help would be really appreciated.
Thanks

Thats just great Now I have a killer
craving for a soda I
drink caffeine-free sodas just to quench
my carbonated drink cravings. I'm pretty
sure those kind are okay. Caffeine can
raise your blood pressure and heart rate
and cause dehydration.

Coke doesn't have as much caffeine in it
as coffee. You can have a cup or even
two cups of coffee every day (which is the
amount limit given by doctors). Don't
worry about what you drank, that little
can't hurt the baby. You could have one
every week and it wouldn't hurt the
baby......there's nothing wrong with
having a little self-indulgence every once
in a while. Just remember to be
moderate.
The only thing that maybe you would want
to be concerned about is that coke doesn't
have any nutritional value and that you
really need to have water instead. So do
have a glass of water too. Coke also
depletes your system of vitamins. So
drinking it too much, like more than once
a day, combined with the caffeine, high
sugar, and empty calories, high sodium,
probably isn't good for you. If you need
to have one, you can also try drinking
"diet right", which is a healthier option:
no caffeine, sugar, or that wonderful
bloating thing: salt.
Don't feel stupid either. It's normal to
fret about things when you are pregnant.
It just means that you want to do what is
best for the baby

thanks for the help, i had a coffee this
morning too...is it bad that i also had
coke in the evening? I have water and milk
in between them too, and had lots of
fruits and stuff too, and i just had a
glass of milk now.
I dont drink coke that often, i usually
have a cup of tea but wanted a coffee
today. Tomorrow im not having any caffine
at all i had enough of it to last tomorrow
too lol
would the coffee i had, and the amount of
coke i had equal the 2 cups that doctors
say is the limit to have?
Thanks for answering my question again.

Why are you all of a sudden so worried
about having half of a can of coke? You
stated that you don't drink coke that
often, which means that you do drink some
coke, so why worry all of a sudden?
Are you having any unusual symptoms that
you think are being caused by the coke
drinking?

Part of the reason caffiene drinking isn't
good is because it can keep you from
getting the necessary rest that you need.
And you do need a lot when you are
pregnant.
I do am wondering why the agitation about
drinking that little.
I wonder if you have pregnancy-related
anxiety disorder because you are so
extremely worried about this after I just
reassured you that you are ok....unless
this has been forbidden you by doctors for
some reason special to your pregnancy
case.
I have had 6 kids and had coffee, wine,
beer and coke when I was pregnant and all
my children are fine. Stop worrying about
it. If you are that worried every time
you have something like coffee or coke,
then just don't drink it at all.

actually, they say you can have up to *6*
cans of coke a day. a little absurd that
they consider 6 cans of coke to be
"caffeine in moderation", but it's true. i
believe 6 cans of coke is the equivalent
to 3 cups of coffee.
i drank at least 3 cans of coke a day with
my first and he's perfect.

I don't think a little here and there is
bad. I have heard that you can drink a
few cans a day and be alright. When I got
preggo, I stopped drinking pop completely
for like the first 6 months. I now have
been letting myself have a dr. pepper
every friday, and if I go out on the
weekends, I drink sprite or sometimes iced
tea or something. You have to let
yourself have a little reward every so
often in my opinion.
As long as you don't go overboard. I read
online that caffeine can speed up the
baby's heart just a little too much if you
drink it in excessively. I really don't
like pop as much as I used to since I
didn't have any for 6 months. It
reallllly helps you keep your weight down
if you cut it out of your diet too.

I used to drink about 6 cans of Coke Zero
a day - but not while pregnant lol! Then
I got a much deserved UTI and now I only
have the odd can. It's addictive,
seriously!
Krystine, don't worry, you won't have
harmed your baby. When I was pregnant
with my son I would often have a diet coke
at lunch.

Hello..True story..I have a family member
that drank soda through the whole
pregnancy and the baby came out with bad
nerves in his legs..His legs shook for 8
months when people held him n he screamed
alot and he is 6yrs old now and you can't
give him caffiene or he has nightmares but
his legs are better so it seems..This is
just my experience though..Or at least try
to stick with caffiene free..too much of
anything can be unhealthy feel me..Good
luck ladies with your pregnancies and my
prayers are with all of you..

That might not have been related to the
mother drinking soda.. I doubt she could
have drunk that much to affect her unborn
child so severely. My doctor said up to 6
cans a day is fine.. like Bridget said. I
don't think a doctor would advise pregnant
women to drink too much caffeine if it was
going to harm their baby.

i was going to say the same thing Zanny.
Im sure if any harm was being done, the
doctor would advise the mother to stop
drinking caffine drinks while pregnant.
That could have been from other things
with the shaking of legs and now
nightmares as you say. Many kids get
nightmares from different things, doesnt
exactaly have to be from coke..
