Exhausted mentally and physically Posted: 10-03-07 07:39am
(*Please move to the appropriate forum if
there is something that more closely
matches up to this note.)
I am 30 and have been feeling
exceptionally tired for the last year. I
do not have health insurance, we are quite
a ways into debt, we have 5 children and
consequently I will *not* go to the doctor
as I cannot afford to have a pre-existing
condition as I will have to get health
insurance first, but that will not be an
option for at least another 6 months to a
year.
I am at the point where I would rather die
than go on. Not meaning I want to commit
suicide, but rather just let my body
expire so I don't feel this horrendous
need for rest any longer. I need help
desperately and do not know where to
search. I'm a pretty smart fellow and
started off in medicine, but realised that
that was not the field for me as I did not
wan to be owned by the insurance and
pharmaceutical organisations. Instead I
went down the computer science road.
I am currently struggling with my own
business and employees so stress is high
along with the debt and family burdens, so
it is very possible that this is a stress
evoked issue and I am going to try to take
two corrective measures:
A) try to get at least 8 hours of sleep a
night as at the moment is usually more
like 5 to 7 hours and at irregular
intervals as I get to bed at different
times each night.
B) try to start giving myself 30 minutes
for exercise in the mornings.
Notwithstanding all of this, I would like
some extra advise. I am currently working
on retooling my skill set to get back into
my field of choice as running my own
business has taken me down other roads
that are not very enjoyable for me. I
feel so tired and mentally unsharp that I
cannot learn like I used to. I have been
thinking of reverting to caffeine to gain
some extra edge in the interim so that I
can make it through the next few months,
but I feel that that may be the wrong
approach. I wish there were something I
could do to tide my body/mind over while I
try to get into better shape to see if
that works.
I've been taking some apparently good
multivitamins (liquid), herbs for stress
relief and adrenal fatigue, mental
clarity, etc. etc. but I seem to see no
real results from anything. I don't
physically feel unhealthy, just mentally
and physically exhausted, but
I can't afford to stop. Sometimes I wish
I could get ahold of those neuro enhancers
that med students and lawyers are on at
the moment at the advanced research
universities so I could get the mental
edge I need right now.
Any ideas/thoughts/experiences from folks
here? I am loosing my sanity and need
some kind of assistance.

It sounds like you simply need more
sleep!! Ideal hours range from 6-8 hours
for adults, so you need to bump it up! If
you can, really try to get onto a regular
set sleep schedule. That will help get
your body set for bed every single night
and fall asleep faster. Have your alarm go
off every morning at the same time, even
if on mondays you don't have to get up as
early as you do on thursdays. Having a set
wake-up and bed-time will help re-clock
your body. You may feel more rested simply
by having a schedule!

wow !!!! You are a very busy man
especially running a business and having 5
children. I also run my own business and
know how exhausting it can be. I do think
getting up at least 30 minutes early and
excersizing is a good way to start your
day. How are you and your wife getting
along? Is she as exhausted as you are?
You may both need to get away
together(without children) for the weekend
for yours and your childrens sake and your
business. Hang in there. My husband and
I are empty nesters and I can promise you
it does get better. You just need to keep
on going. Taking vitamins is a good idea.
Caffeine doesn't hurt but I would not
depend on it to give you energy. Mental
energy is huge and I believe mind over
matter is very important. I am saying
this as I have MS and have times when I
just don't think I can get out of bed ( in
fact there are time when I don't) but for
most days I force myself to get up are
realize I can make the best of the life I
have been given, be thankful for my family
and be the best person I can be. Good
luck to you. YOU CAN DO IT !!!!!

don't forget a healthy diet.
you may also want to try and focus on some
of the smaller things that give you
enjoyment. a hobby? maybe movies? play
pool?
