Family Dog Dies During Traffic Stop Posted: 08-17-08 16:37pm

"""Missy, a teacup poodle from San Marcos,
Texas, died after a police officer told
her owners, Krystal Hernandez and Michael
Gonzalez, to, “relax, it’s just a dog.
You can get another one.”
Gonzalez allegedly reached speeds of 95mph
as he drove with his girlfriend to get
help for the sick dog. From the video, it
appears that he was driving near the berm
with his hazard lights flashing. When an
officer appeared behind him, he stopped,
probably assuming that the cop would
understand the situation and escort them
or let them go on at a slower pace.
Hernandez even asked if Gonzalez could
stay behind and get the ticket while she
went on with Missy. Instead, the cop
mocked them and let the dog die in the
car. See the dash video here.
First of all, had this been my dog, I
would never have stopped. That’s not to
say that Gonzalez was in the wrong for
doing so. Far from it. I just have a lot
less faith in people, and I never would
have assumed that this cop would have been
sympathetic. I would have kept going and
called 911 from my cell to explain the
situation. He could have had a field day
ticketing, arresting, and/or tasing me
when my dog was in the care of a vet.
To add insult to injury, Chief Howard
Williams said it’s “not a disciplinary
action, it’s a coaching one.” A
“rookie mistake.” Give me a break.""""

I think he should be fired, for his
complete lack of empathy in such a
distressing situation. Pets are not just
animals, they become part of the family
for people to love. How inconsiderate to
say it's JUST a dog! And that it can
simply be replaced. His inconsiderate
actions allowed an animal to die, when a
life could have been saved. This has
nothing to do with expertise. He knew the
dog was dying, you could hear it from the
car.
I think he should at least be suspended,
until he has been COACHED (cuz that's what
they said) on how to consider the feelings
of others.

The chief doesn't get it either. It's not
that "the officer didn't know how to
handle the situation" it's that the
officer is a jackwad of pus.
Anyone wonder why I hate people?

you know--they need to put themselves in
the civilians shoes---if he had a dog that
was sick and it was all he had---im sure
he would have been in his cop car sirens
wailing going to the vets--but when we do
it its not ok? I hate that cops use their
sirens and their cop priveleges to get out
of waiting at stop lights and things like
that i think its wrong.
YEah i hate people too---not all of them
just a fair majority lol

I think it's correct they were stopped;
what if they had hit and killed a child,
because they were speeding? However, the
police officer's remarks were totally out
of line and to take 20 minutes to write
the ticket is just cruel. He could have
shown a little empathy.
