I am 17, and I will admit I have a
moustache. It isn't blatant, but it's
there, and it bugs my boyfriend and i. I
use bleach and that sort of works, but I
refuse to shave it because I know that's
not the way to go. I don't want to ruin
my skin. I am also afraid of laser
surgery because doctors don't know much
about the possible side effects. What
should I do?? Please help!!

Usually, female facial hair grows very
very slowly (hence it doesn't ever get
very long). If that's the case, shaving
it is not necessarily such a bad idea.
Once every two weeks or so should do the
trick to keep it below visibility without
'ruining' your skin.
Laser surgery or anti-testosterone therapy
may be considered if you are very bothered
by it.

I hear electrolysis is a permanent way to
remove hair.

facial hair on females is not necessarily
result of excess testosterone produced by
their adrenal glands / ovaries.
Although, this is a known condition called
hirsutism if i'm not mistaken---the result
continued growth of body hair. So she
would have a full out mustache that
continues to grow unless she takes care of
it. This is not the case, she has a bit
of peach fuzz and stays that way, likely
triggered by the onset of pubery a few
years back. In either case, shaving
should resolve the problem perminantly,
unless it grows back at a very slow
rate.
In either case, laser surgery is perfectly
safe. If you're still iffy then get
electrolysis (which can take 3-4 sessions
to get it all), and you'll be rid of it
forever.
Your other options are obviously, shaving,
tweezing, waxing, or using depilatories.
(hair removal creams/oils).
The only time a dexamethasone (synthetic
steroid / birth control pill to suppress
testosterone production) is recommended is
if the condition stems from high androgen
levels.
