food drop diagnosis

ok this is so bizarre. I do not understand if this is a permanant condition for the rest of my life. maybe someone here can tell me based on what i know atm. a mnth today (actually).. i had a spinal tap done by the time i went to my follow up appt i told her that my back aches at the injection site. i was given Lidoderm patches. they were really expensive and didnt really seem to do any good. i then used a muscle rub which did help a bit more than the patches. but now a week after not using anything i discovered i cant walk on my foot and now have been told that this is called drop foot. I guess i need to know first of all has anyone ever had this problem caused by a epideral type procedure? and if so, will i have it forever? my bigger conerns are these PLS HELP.. Can you drive if you have this problem? ( it is my right foot) and are you able to have a normal life somehow and most of all can you work with it? i am in process of having the first battery of tests run. they are starting off with a spinal MRI. ( maybe to see if i have nerve damage?) and i guess i am suppose to get some kind of a foot brace. ( what if i had an office job and i cant wear sneakers?) currently i am using crutches to help stablize my balance becuase all i do is lose balance. if anyone can tell me ANY answers to these questions I would be truly grateful. Sad

i found this for you on a website, i'm guessing since you had the spinal tap you might have had nerve damage...."The prognosis for foot drop depends on the cause. Foot drop caused by trauma or nerve damage usually shows partial or even complete recovery. For progressive neurological disorders, foot drop will be a symptom that is likely to continue as a lifelong disability, but it will not shorten life expectancy." you may want to check it out and see if it is a neurological disorder though, but since you got it after the spinal tap and described what happened, it really sounds like theyve damaged a nerve. "Treatment depends on the specific cause of foot drop. The most common treatment is to support the foot with light-weight leg braces and shoe inserts, called ankle-foot orthotics. Exercise therapy to strengthen the muscles and maintain joint motion also helps to improve gait. Devices that electrically stimulate the peroneal nerve during footfall are appropriate for a small number of individuals with foot drop. In cases with permanent loss of movement, surgery that fuses the foot and ankle joint or that transfers tendons from stronger leg muscles is occasionally performed." hope this helps and good luck.

p.s. my ex-boyfriend had drop foot after a leg surgery he was told he had damaged nerves from the surgery. he is walking normally now, but says that he still has no feeling on the bottom of his right foot, but even that is still improving.

question about what they gave me

Thank you so much for this information!!! Very
Happy I am soo releived that someone has finally told me that this is probably only a temporary thing. I have been so upset wondring how will i live like this for the rest of my life. I cannot tell you how much it helped for somene to tell me that the nerve damage has possibly not caused me permanant damage.
In regards to the brace that you mentioned. I am not quite sure but the original doctor was goign to prescribe me a brace i think it was like an ankle brace. but somewhere along the lines someone felt and i ended up with a prescription to get an AFO boot ( i think that is what it is called) I am getting in in a couple days but now i am not sure if that is appropriate instead of the brace? Any ideas on the difference between the two?? if you/anyone can respond by sunday night before i get this boot ( since my drs arent around over the weekend) i would appreciate some advice.

and thank- you for the web page link! (HUGS)~Blaydwoman
