Galvanic Shock in new filling Posted: 04-07-08 12:35pm
Just about 7 days ago, a 24 year old
silver filling popped out of my tooth
after I flossed it. It didn't hurt but
the filling seemed massive and there was a
big hole in my tooth - upper left - last
tooth but not a wisdom tooth (removed). I
went to a new dentist who put in another
silver filling. I told her my teeth were
extremely sensitive.
Well, I am experiencing a shock sensation
when anything hits the outer part of the
tooth. Even if I put pressure on that
side of the tooth - with my tongue or
finger, the sensation is extremely
annoying. Almost feels as if the filling
could be loose because even when I press
my cheek against it - I get a jolt.
I am going back to the DDS on Thursday to
have this filling removed and replaced
with a white filling. Does anyone have a
suggestion before I do that? I don't want
to undergo another filling if there is a
solution.
Thanks.

I just had my mouth done with 12 fillings.
It can take a while for the cavity to
settle and you can feel pain for some
time, even a few weeks. I had the white
ones done and even though they are more
expensive, they are well worth it. I have
heard of dentists not filling the cavity
correctly and the pain lasting for over a
year.
It never hurts to complain to your doctor
about your problems: they are there to
help you and make your life better, not
harder.
As for what to do about it, there really
isn't anything that I know of that will
kill that kind of pain besides ibuprofen
and just eating softer foods on the place
where there is no pain. I hope your
doctor will have a solution for you.
