Did anyone get genetic screening done on their baby? It's done in two parts: part1 is an ultrasound between 11-13 weeks and a blood test and then another blood test later on (I think 16-18 weeks i'll have to look on my requisition to be sure).

Now it will not tell you if your baby has something wrong with them only if you test negative or positive. Positive means you have more of a likelyhood then other women to have a baby that has Trisomy21(Downs Syndrome), Trisomy 18 or Spina Bifida.

Then if you test positive you are offered an amniocentesis to determine if the child in fact does have one of these disorders.

Now if i did by chance test positive i would not opt for the amnio. I'm not interested in knowing. The biggest reason i want to get it done is i want another ultrasound because I wouldn't get another until 16 weeks. Its free so it doesn't matter either way.

Oh and my OB actually give me the detailed ultrasounds results. The ultrasound lady told me i was 7 weeks but I was actually 6 weeks 3 days when she did the ultrasound. Baby was 7.4mm long and had a fetal heartbeat of 122bmp (which OB said is great for how far along i was). So my due date changed to December 21st! Really is going to be a christmas baby!

I did with my first pregnancy. She tested negative and was perfectly fine.

I refused the test this time around, because it won't affect whether we keep the pregnancy or our child.

My due date is December 28th. We're only a few days apart! Smile

the only reason i did it was for the ultrasound. if it was just a blood test i would have refused, but i really wanted that extra ultrasound.

This test has a high false positive rate. It isn't necessary, like Laura said - but I can see you know that and are wanting it for the US. Good luck.

I had them do the nuchal translucency screening and as this came back low risk I did not have further testing (although would have if it had been a different result). Of course these things can be wrong but it's a personal choice as to whether or not you would rather have them done

I chose not to have any screening either. He is going to be the way god meant him to be. Plus I would not want to be scared or worried my whole pregnancy. But I have seen older women who become pregnant to get genetic testing done. Mostly because of their age though.

I dint get it done with either of my children, I dont view it as a necessity, knowing fully well there is genetic disorder in my family I would handle it on my own terms. Alot of people are told of the percentage of their kids having downs syndrome and it comes out just fine.

I don't know how you are confused......I'll be 10 weeks on Monday so that's "almost" 10 weeks. But if you want to be so technical I'm 9w4d now. I usually don't get right down to the day. When I'm a couple of days into a week I just say "almost _weeks" what's the big deal to you anyways? Why do you even care?

what's with the attitude? she said she was confused because you said you were due dec 31, 3 days after her. going by that date you'd have been 9w1d when you said you were "almost 10 weeks".

it's nothing to get uppity about.

sorry but if you look when I posted my post when I said I was almost 10 weeks it was yesterday. So that made me 9w3d. So today makes me 9w4d. What's so confusing about that?

then you're due 12/29? the confusing part was where you said you were due 12/31.

laura was comparing your dates and weeks to hers. she's 9w5d and due 12/28.

Well acording to my doctor and the information printed on my 1st u/s sound done at 6w3d It says I'm due 12/31. But it may be because clinical info (LMP) and size of the baby were off by 2 days. I dunno. But my doc said to use the EDD of 12/31 but that I was considered to me 6w3d at the time. I dunno and really it's no big deal. Whats 2 days anyways.

Sorry for the confusion. It just seemed as though the little smiley icon was an attitude in itself. But o well. No worries.

Holy attitude. Shocked

I'm due 12/28 and I'm 9 weeks 5 days today. If you're due 12/31, you're 9 weeks 2 days.

Calm down a bit, please. I was confused as to how you could be further along than me if your due date was after mine. I didn't mean anything by it and certainly didn't want to get jumped on.
