giving a toddler Methatrexate orally Posted: 07-08-08 08:51am
I tried this yesterday and my 2 year old
gagged and tried to spit it out and stuck
her figers in her mouth. Her doctor told
use to be careful about coming in contact
with the methatrexate but its hard when
you have to clean it off your kid. I was
giving her injections but now she is to
hard to hold done and hold still. Her
doctor wanted me to try the oral method
with the same methatrexate solution we
were using for the injections. He said
there isn't much of a taste but seeing my
kids reaction after putting it in her
mouth I would say it does have a bad
taste.
Anyway has anyone ever tried mixing the
methatrexate with something like koolaid
to help with the taste?

It'll be better to mix the medicine with
100% juice.
Was your toddler diagnosed with juvenile
rheumatoid arthritis?
What kind of symptoms she has?

No she has Juvenile Dermatomyositis
(JDMS). The symptoms are usually muscle
weakness, rash (cheeks, nose, eyelids,
hands, and knees), and lack of energy.
Yeah I am going to try some kind of juice
with the Mexatrexate.
