Had bad bleeding after my 2 kids were born, can I have another ? Posted: 03-21-08 12:22pm
Whem my first child was born I had really
bad bleeding right after, my doctor worked
on me for about 30 minutes I guess if not
longer, and finaaly had to give me
injections. The first one didnt help but
the second one did but it made me very
sick. With my son who was born a year ago
tomorrow the same thing happened but not
as bad they just had to give me a shot of
potocin and it stopped it. Now I want to
have another one soon but Im so scared it
will happen again, should I?

Did you have an IUD in you? My mother in
law once said that she bleed for two
straight months due to that.

Hi did your doctor discuss with you why he
gave you the pintocin-was the placenta
released when he did that, usually
administering pintocin is to release the
placenta.
also a general rule to any pregnancies, is
know your blood.
ferratin levels(iron)
hemoglobin (oxygen carrying red cells)
redblood cells(platelets-clotting cells),
all of these factors if low can cause you
to bleed.normal is 150 000-350 000
microlitres
If anemic being on a course of iron can
really help, preg or not.
iud-intra uterine device, metal or plastic
object to prevent pregnancy,

With my second preg. she did start giving
me iron pills I think thats why it wasnt
so bad the 2nd time. She said the my
uterus wouldnt contract back together by
it's self. I have rh negative blood A

i dont know why you bled so much, but id
think you should be fine having another
one, maybe talk to your doc first to make
sure
and im sorry roxy1234 but pitocin is NOT
to help the placenta come out, they give
it to women who just gave birth to help
stop the bleeding AFTER the placenta comes
out, once the placenta tears away from teh
uterus your left with a wound on your
uterus to help stop the bleeding from the
wound you need pressure on it, they
obviously cant do that with their hands so
they give you pitocin to help your uterus
contract to put pressure on it....that is
also why they massage your belly, to help
your uterus contract

my apologies if i am incorrect with the
pitocin.
i do recall being given pitocin in the leg
and was told it was to help the placenta
release quicker.
I will have to go an have to go have a
look, thanks for pointing that out.

iI just had a look, an yes pitocin is
also given routinely but not necessary,
for the quicker release of the placenta
according to the source on the net.
As a prevention of haemorage.
and yes also for helping the uterus to
contract. Also for induction.
I was concerned then i was giving incorect
information, i am aiming for a career in
midwifery so wondered how i could stuff
that up.
Thanks again now i know for sure.
Jessbrian07, i would encourage you to
talk with your doctor about your concerns.
I always say no regrets. We have four
children, each very difficult deliveries.
It came with a cost but, I am so pleased i
have my four they are worth it.all the
best.

Understandable to have concerns, good on
you for spending some time asking for
advice. Knowlege is power. As ive
discovered difficult deliveries can leave
some scars emotionally. Including fear.
Talking to a supportive person can
really help, as it is real it did happen.
But with the right care, right
information you may not need to go through
a difficult time again. You had mentioned
with your last baby that it was better
with being on iron. There is also a
liquid form which i found
helpful-prescription.
what experience has taught me is to gain
knowledge, it is our bodies and who should
care about it more, but us.
I think you are brave, how old are your
children?
