Having intercourse during placebo pills Posted: 07-10-08 12:11pm
Hello all, I'm a new member. I was
perusing around here and thought I'd ask
some quick questions, somethings that have
been bothering me since i started BC. I
started loestrin 24 about 6 months ago,
and just recently had no period on my
placebos. I was reading around here, and
found that it is quite common, and i
called my Dr. and she also said it's
normal.
My BF and i still think it's a good idea
to take a P test, but my nerves are a
little less strained then they were a few
days ago.
So, i wanted to ask; do i have the risk of
pregnancy at any time while on the pill?
We have unprotected sex, but I take my
pills consistantly at the same time every
day, i just get a little concerned
switching from the pills to the placebos,
and the possibility of getting pregnant
while waiting for my "induced" period on
the placebos, we still continue to have
sex while i'm on the placebos.
I also have one more question; could
moving the time at which i take the
placebos make me vulnerable to pregnancy
at all? Such as pushing it back a few
days (and starting another pack) or moving
it forward a few days? Thank you for any
suggestions or comments.
Sara
PS For the P test, should i wait a certain
number of days after the missed period?
It's been 1 day since the last placebo
pill.
For when to take the test, I would wait a
couple more days just to be sure. EPT
boasts they can find a pregnancy 5 days
after the first missed day...but, just to
lesser the margin of error, wait a little
longer.
I don't think you're at risk...birth
control stops an egg from being released,
so there is nothing to be fertilized! And
if it doesn't do that, it alters the body
so the sperm CAN'T fertilize it (for
example, more cervical mucus making it so
the sperm can't travel).
You're fine...but if you want to make
sure, take the test.

As long as you've been taking your active
pills correctly then you are protected,
even into your placebo week.

That depends. If you were to change your
day by waiting before you start a new pack
then you could be at risk so you should
use a backup method like condoms. But if
you were to start a new pack before
finishing your placebo pills then you'd be
ok.

If you're done with placebo pills and
still no period then you should be good to
test.

Hello! Posted: 07-10-08 14:42pm
I just started taking those same pills.
This is my third month and I had no
period. I took 5 at home tests...all
negative. Then I got blood work to be
sure. Not pregnant.
I am not saying that you aren't for sure,
but this pill does cause you to skip your
period altogether.

Right... take at least 21 active pills,
and then no more than 7 placebo pills. So
if you want to take 28 or 35 or 78 active
pills, that's fine. Or if you want to take
only 4 placebo pills, or none at all,
that's fine too. The only thing is, any
time you mess with the schedule, you might
have some spotting.
As long as you follow the rules (at least
21 active pills, no more than 7 placebo
pills) you are protected from pregnancy at
all times.
However, when you are on the pill, (or any
type of birth control) there is ALWAYS a
slight chance of pregnancy.
I was on a birth control that made me not
get my period at all. During that time, I
began taking regular pregnancy tests, just
to ease my mind.
