Q: Hcg Levels and down syndrome

Ok before I was having cramping but the great news it was nothing! I had a nice vacation and then came back to have my levels checked. They called me yesterday and said they were really good but the Dr wants me to have and ultrasound. Ok I will feel alot better after that is done and more confident because they will be able to see the heartbeat! When they called with the time I asked what my level was and she told me 15,135 which she said is kinda high for them thinking I am only 6 weeks going by my LMP. She said they think I am further along but I am wondering if something else could be going on. I read that a high Hcg could mean the baby has down syndrome so I am very concerned. Any one else have this problem??

HCG levels can't tell you to much. The most important thing is that they are doubling. Have you had two tests?

The good news is you will be able to see something on the u/s! That is always great!!

High hcg levels can be a lot of things. It could be on the bad end of the spectrum like Down's Syndrome or a few other conditions, but it could just as easily be on the good end. It could just be a normal pregnancy or it could be twins! Wink

I only had one test. I called to see if they still wanted me to come in for the second test and they said no I can just have the u/s done. I don't want to wait another week.

An ultrasound is going to be the best for diagnosing anything. Hcg levels are just a basic pregnancy indicator really. A lot of women have high hcg levels and perfectly normal pregnancy. Some women with multiples have low hcg numbers and are still fine. Hcg really varies widely.
