I have had chronic neck pain and headache
in the back of my head. The pain is very
severe at night when I go to sleep and
when I wake up. During the day the pain is
on and off and lasts for minimum 2 to
maximum 3 mts. There is no specific
pattern - the headache starts in the back
of the head, behind and above the ears and
sometimes will move to the top for short
periods. As long as the pain lasts, I feel
as though there is pressure building up in
my head and as though my nerves will burst
any moment. I am unable to focus on
anything that I do as my hands, legs (and
sometimes even my head) becomes numb very
often and I do experience blackouts.
Sometimes, the pain travels to the down -
to the jawbone. If you could tell me what
the problem is and if it needs serious
attention.
According to your headache description,
you could be experiencing a tension
headache. Tension headache is a primary
headache with not well defined etiology,
probably due to anxiety. But before that
you can do several diagnostic procedures
to exclude organic diseases that can be
manifested with headache. You can have an
X-ray image of the neck spine taken in
order to exclude a spine disorder. You
can request a complete clinical
examination by your GP. Standard blood
tests might also be indicated to check
your anemia-situation.
