hello new here 16 and pregnant Posted: 06-17-08 02:01am
I post at the teen pregnancy forum but
wanted to join pregnancy community chat
too since im pregnant.
Im 16 and only found out last week then
saw my doctor last friday, he confirmed it
and refered me to see a midwife for the
rest of my pregnancy. It wasnt planned as
we were using the withdrawal method so he
never ejaculated in me. I was shocked at
first, then really anxious, now im pretty
happy about it. I know I have a lot to
think about and plan and am in no way in
the perfect situation to have a baby.
Luckily I live in the uk where you can get
quite a lot of government benefits and
help with housing. My parents both live on
benefits too and choose not to work but
they spend most of it on alcohol It sounds like im
heading down the same road they took but I
dont plan to and im still thinking about
my options. I haven't told anyone im
pregnant yet, it feels like such a huge
secret to be keeping to myself but im
trying to find a good time to tell my
parents. I haven't told the father either
and right now I dont think I should
because I dont want to be with him and hes
been into bad stuff so he isnt a good
influence for a child to be around. Anyway
Im due on 7th Feb 2009 anyone else?

I just wanted to say welcome to the forums
and good luck. I was due last year on
February 8 and delivered on January 24th.
Just because you are a pregnant teenager
does not mean you have to follow your
parents' past. Dare to be better for your
child.

Hey i'm Danni and i'm 16 too and i have an
almost 1 year old daughter and i'm fromthe
uk too. The sooner you tell yourparents
the easier it will be. You can be a good
mother at 16 but itis difficult

thanks and hiya! I think I can be a good
mum but it will be difficult because its
all new to me. I dont have much experience
with kids especially babies. Im already
feeling different like I have to eat
healthy and be safe for the babys sake.
School is finished for the summer so im
taking it easy relaxing. Is it safe to
swim while pregnant? I go swimming every
week and now school is closed I will go
more if its okay. I applied to college for
september but have decided to put it off
for now. I didnt know what I wanted to do
for a career anyway I was just going to
study the usual subjects. Thinking about
being a mum I would rather have a career
that's suited well to being a parent,
maybe work part time hours so I can still
be home for my child and not use daycare,
or work in a school where I will get all
school holidays off and weekends same as
my child.
I still havent told my parents. Instead I
got a friend to casually bring the subject
up around my mum to see what she thought
about teen mums and stuff, she said she
would kick us out. Now im worried because
I dont know if I have to be 18 to go on
the council housing list to get free
housing or if I can do it at 16. Im going
to find out.

You don't have to be 18, i'm 16 and my
boyfriend is 17 and we live in a council
flat. Swimming is a great form of exercise
when your pregnant because it's not too
straining, but it is advised that you
don't do much more then your body is
already used to.
Personally i'd advise you to try and go to
college because it's always easier to get
a betetr job with more qualifications, i'm
going to college in september for
hairdressing and beauty when my daughter
will be 14 months old and even though it
breaks my heart that i'm going to have to
leave her with somebody else i know that
i'm doing itfor her so that i can get a
job and so that we can move out of council
accommidation because this place is
horrible and has the nickname of 'the
herion flats' because people used to shoot
up in the gardens and one of my neighbours
sells weed.
Your parents migth say that now and no
doubt they will be upset and dissapointed
but you aer their child and they will
always love you. My parents said that
there was no way i couldlive there with a
baby when they found out i waspregnant but
then i ended up living there for 9 months
because the council couldn't find us a
place.
Oh and another thing, don't expect to get
a place from the council right away, it
took me 9 months and i've known of people
who have been on there for years

I rememebered something this morning when
i gotmine through the post. Have you
applied for healthy start vouchers yet?
You will get a voucher worth £3 a week to
spend on cows milk, infant formula milk,
fresh fruit and fresh vegetables up until
you give birth and then once you've had
the baby you will get two £3 vouchers a
week to spend on the same things. If you
choose to breastfeed then the vitamins
from the fruit and veg really helps you
out plus while you're pregnant the calcium
from the cows milk is goodforyour baby's
growing bones. If you choose not to
breastfeed and use the voucher towards
formula then i would imagine it helps out
alot (i breastfeed so i don't actually
know how much formula is but from what i
can remember from myneice and nephew it's
alot).
You can also apply for a £500 sure start
maternity grant once you start claiming
benefits in your own name. Here's some
info about it if it helps you at all
